Michael Cohen sending a clear message to Trump by speaking 'real truth,' sources say

Source: CNN

Michael Cohen, the President's former fixer and ultimate loyalist, is sending a clear signal to President Donald Trump and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, that "the truth is not you or your client's friend," according to sources with knowledge of Cohen's thinking.

Two sources familiar with Cohen's thinking say he has "hit the reset button" and is continuing his commitment to speak the "real truth."

In particular, the same sources say Giuliani is wading into dangerous territory when he asks Cohen to "tell the truth" about the Trump Tower meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and Russian meddling in the election.

...snip...

These sources would not comment on whether Cohen's attorney, Guy Petrillo, has been meeting with prosecutors in New York and referred inquiries about any potential case to Petrillo.

As opposed to the unreal truth.

Always thought truth was one of those things that didn't need a qualifier. I guess those are not the times in which we live.

If he's not already talking to the special prosecutor, then all of this is just so much blather.

How about this for an idea, for Michael Cohen and others. Just STFU. If you're talking to the prosecutors, talk to them and STFU about everything else. You don't see the prosecutors blathering on about shit. Follow their lead. If you're not talking to the prosecutors, just STFU about everything. The working assumption is that you're an idiot and a liar.

be able to plead the 5th? If there is not jeopardy, could Cohen be compelled to talk. And would any jeopardy for Cohen be for not talking or for perjury?

It was Don Jr.'s blabbing that revealed the collusion with Russia when he released his emails of the Trump Tower.

It was Trump's blabbing that revealed Comey was fired as an act of obstruction.

Personally I would love if Twitter would just shut off the president because it distracts the media and the public, but their blabbing is gold.

Evil but still an idiot. The “real truth” as opposed to...the opposite of real truth is lies. The MSM needs to shun this asshole so he can be alone with his brand of truth.

Part of the traitorous team, the criminal's lawyer who is a criminal himself...suddenly sees the light. Suddenly sees Trump and his family for what they are?

I'm perplexed as to how he didn't see this before. Maybe he's just doing what he thinks is best for himself, whether it's true or not. Just like before he was doing what was best for himself, whether it was legal or not, true or not. That would be consistent.

I find it fitting that a perp like that ends up being in the crosshairs of the perp group he belonged to before. That he becomes the meal, instead of the eater.

landscape and I suspect that he knows how to truly color the facts so that people would actually believe what he says...after all, he is an attorney (so they say). If I were an attorney in NYC dealing w/ the likes of what's in NYC (mob, etc.), I would ensure that I would have safety deposit boxes full of stuff scattered at various locations throughout the city and elsewhere in the country.

Why not? You can't really trust someone like rump, who's had such a long running history of lying, of cheating, of just plain everything...

It's elementary. I would have "proof" stashed away in different places, just because I'd never know if I'd ever need it.

Color me paranoid but what if this is a ruse by the tRump team??? Cohn's real "truth" exonerates the prez and others... With all this anticipation of Cohn flipping what if he just sides with tRump and blows the whole thing up??? tRump loves throwing hand grenades in the room...

Mueller's team or SD of NY has something on Cohen, or he wouldn't be flipping.

The way it works, in my understanding, is they get the testimony or proof from the perp FIRST, before signing onto a deal. Although they agree on what the deal will be, if he has good enough proof that helps the investigation. So they have the testimony or documents already, before they give the perp a deal.

Just like with any criminal. You have a case against a criminal. Perp says, "I got proof on the Manson murders." They say "cough it up," and hear the story. They then get w/the perp's lawyer & arrange a deal. After they agree on a deal, IF the guy follows thru with it, they then take that testimony in writing, and/or get the documents. If the perp holds up his end of the deal, THEN, and only then, the prosector and perp's atty sign the deal.

So they have everything before they finalize a deal. If the perp changes his story, they have his testimony in writing already, AND that breaks the deal. The deal is off.

If he loves tRump so much would he fall on his sword for him?? After he says his "truth" that the prez had nothing to do with the Russians he would get crucified by the feds, yes. BUT the prez would have a "credible" witness to go against the Mueller team. I would not be surprised that he would deny any cooperation with Mueller and was coerced into what was written or said... It seems the tRump team wants to discredit the Mueller team any way they can...
YMMV just my opinion...

There's no claiming later that there was no deal. First, the lawyer has his reputation to consider. Secondly, it's in writing. Third, the deal is made AFTER the prosecutor knows what the perp has to give up.

If the perp shows up at court and changes his story, the deal is off. Perp goes to trial or jail or both on the charges against the perp.

Of COURSE the Trump team will do what it can to discredit the perp's "story." That's what trials are all about. Often the perp is an unsavory character, so the opposition will make a big deal out of that. And so on and so forth.

Perps do a deal only because the evidence against them is strong enough that they will likely be found guilty and likely have to do jail time. If they reneg on the deal, they go back to being in that situation. It's not often that perps reneg on the deal. But if they do, the prosecutor is in no worse position than before.
