An angry racist man was caught on camera over the weekend berating a woman for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag on it in the United States — despite the fact that Puerto Rico is actually a U.S. territory.

In the video, which was posted on July 7th, a woman wearing a Puerto Rican flag shirt calmly tries to explain to a man who has been yelling at her that Puerto Rico is actually part of the United States, even though it is not officially a state.

However, the man was not convinced by her factual arguments and proceeded to follow her around and yell at her some more.

“If you’re an American citizen, why are you wearing that sh*t!” he yelled. “If you’re an American citizen, you should not be wearing that shirt in America!”

A Chicago-area woman was attacked by a man who police say was drunk because she was wearing a Puerto Rico flag shirt at the Forest Preserves park in Cook County, Illinois. Video of the incident has gone viral.

In the video, the unidentified man screams at and harasses the woman because of her shirt, asking if she is a citizen and saying she should be wearing an American flag. Puerto Ricans are American citizens whether they are born on the U.S. mainland or in Puerto Rico and have been since 1899, when Puerto Rico was acquired as a territory.

“Are you a citizen? Then you should not be wearing that,” he says in the video. He also said, “You’re not going to change us. The world is not going to change the United States of America. You should not be wearing that in the United States of America.”

The man in the video was later arrested, but the a Forest Preserves police officer can be seen in the footage watching from about 20 feet away as the woman was attacked and not doing anything, leading to outrage. That officer is now under investigation. In the video, the woman can be heard asking the officer, “I do not feel comfortable with him here; is there anything you can do?” She later says in the video, about the officer, “He didn’t do anything.”

One man has come to be known as the anonymous finger-pointing loud mouth in a blue tank top. There’s also the cop who stood by as the man berated a woman for the simple act of wearing a shirt with a Puerto Rican flag.

They became famous Monday after a video of the incident at a Northwest Side forest preserve was posted to social and media went viral.

The angry rant made headlines and was viewed millions of times on social media, catching the attention of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who apologized to the victim, and the governor of Puerto Rico, who tweeted, “This is not the America we all believe in.”

She went on: “We intend to use the video in future training exercises for our officers. And we want to ensure everyone that the Forest Preserve District will be a safe and welcoming place for all.”
