U.S. Embassy Tells Americans in London: 'Keep a Low Profile' for Trump Visit
Source: The Daily Beast
The U. S. Embassy in the United Kingdom released a warning on Tuesday in anticipation of President Trumps visit to London, asking Americans to keep a low profile while the president remains overseas. Numerous demonstrations are being planned for July 12 to 14, 2018, surrounding the visit of the President of the United States to the United Kingdom, the statement said. The majority of the demonstrations will be focused in central London on July 13, with other events planned for July 12 and 14. Several of the events are expected to attract large crowds and there will be road closures in connection with those events. The warning tells Americans to be aware of surroundings, exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent, and to monitor local media for updates.

(260 posts)We got to London the day before a would-be martyr had his bomb fizzle on the tube. We felt safer after that, as everywhere we walked for the next week there was always a contingent of police at all tourist gathering spots. It was the trip of our lifetimes for me an my wife. Nicest folk, dogs in pubs, and being mistaken for Canadian! Yeah, with the Orange One being the face of America (eww!) that's a plus.

(15,638 posts)actually just a threat against our own citizens by our own so-called government? In either case, what a bunch of ignorant bastards.
If I were in London, I'd be in the streets with my signs right along with the Londoners proudly displaying my absolute disdain with everything Trump!

I hope the demonstrations in the U.K. are epic.

Best of luck to her during this silly season.

(1,395 posts)We spent a few years in the Netherlands, and since we registered with the American Consulate, we used to get similar notices whenever there was anything going on in Amsterdam or the Hague.

(16,646 posts)Other than that, I usually find the Embassy warnings to be horribly over the top. The could apply to virtually anywhere. When in a foreign country, it's best to not involve yourself in politics AT ALL. I've had political conversations in the UK and Ireland, and they all consisted of commiseration. I whined about American politics and they whined about their own local politics. Quite illuminating actually.
