Judge orders Manafort be moved to jail closer to DC
BY BRETT SAMUELS - 07/10/18 02:05 PM EDT
A federal judge ordered Tuesday that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort be moved to a jail in Alexandria, Va., so he can more easily communicate with his lawyers.
The Washington Post reported that Judge T.S. Ellis agreed to move Manafort from Northern Neck Jail, which is about two hours away from Washington, D.C., to the jail in Alexandria.
Manafort requested last week that his trial be delayed until the fall because his location made it difficult to consult with lawyers. He also requested the trial be moved from Alexandria to Roanoke, arguing Northern Virginia is an unfair setting because it skews liberal.
Prosecutors for special counsel Robert Mueller have until Friday to respond to those motions, The Washington Post reported.
In the meantime, Ellis said Manafort will be transferred to Alexandria to ensure that the defendant has access to his counsel and can adequately prepare his defense.

(13,524 posts)2010 First, a disclaimer: You don't ever want to go to jail, no matter how nice that jail is. For this reason, I don't think I can in good conscience give this location more than a three star "A-OK" review. Because, let's face it, it's still a jail.
Those things being said, the Alexandria Detention Center is one of the nicest jails I have ever seen. The jail itself is clean (with the exception of 3AB - the mental health unit, but that's to be expected), the deputies and staff are pleasant and will gladly answer any questions you have about getting around, getting in touch with inmates, processing, etc., and even the cell blocks are pretty nice, with TV's DVD's, and ample access to phones. The jail itself is pretty close to the Eisenhower Metro, and the deputies will gladly call a cab for you, should you end up spending the night in the drunk tank.
Like I said, one of the nicest jails I've had the opportunity to visit. But that doesn't mean that you should consider checking it out if you don't have to.

This is a terrrible place to be one of the worst prisons I have ever seen. No prison is good but this one does not even take care of the medical problems they have in their facility. My mother is in there and she has diabetes and seizures they let her medicine go with out getting refilled then I drive 2 hours to take it to her and then they still go with out giving it to her even though it could kill her. Everyone makes mistakes in this world but no one has the right to treat any one worse than what you treat a pile of shit. If something happens to my mother while she is in this crap hole facility I will sue them for every thing they got. What the hell is the point to have medical staff if they cant even do there damn jobs.

(6,045 posts)Im terrified of the thought of Manafort being brutally murdered waiting to go to trial...It would obviously silence Manafort but it make every other witness SHIT THEMSELVES!
Putin/Russian Mob could get it done & Trump never know about it!
I just they keep Manafort very safe!!

(15,273 posts)Shortly after this request to move closer to his lawyers was granted, the same lawyers turned around and said Manafort didn't want to move. Maddow read the filing on her show last night.
I doubt it's a good idea to file a motion which the court granted, then turn around and say "thanks, but no thanks". The judge might be annoyed.
