House Speaker Paul Ryan called embattled Republican Rep. Jim Jordan a man of honesty and integrity Wednesday, amid allegations the Ohio lawmaker turned a blind eye toward alleged abuse while he was an assistant coach two decades ago.

"Jim Jordan is a friend of mine," Ryan said at a news conference on Capitol Hill. "We haven't always agreed with each other over the years. But I always have known Jim Jordan to be a man of honesty, and a man of integrity."

An outside firm was hired earlier this year to conduct an independent investigation at Ohio State University. Jordan, who has repeatedly denied having any direct knowledge of sexual abuse, has not sat down with those investigators yet, but said Tuesday it was possible he might sit down with them this week.

Ryan shot down the idea that the House Ethics Committee would investigate Jordan, as has been floated, saying that the Ethics Committee typically investigates things that have happened while members are in Congress, not things that happened decades ago and before they were.

I believe it is up to 8 or 9 former students that have accused Jordan of knowing about the sexual abuse.

I am not sure now. but did the House ethics Committee say they were going to investigate Franken??? I do not remember. I know the women who had accused him was before he was a Senator--while he was not a member of Congress.

Two congressional watchdogs Monday called on the Office of Congressional Ethics to conduct a preliminary inquiry into reports that U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan ignored complaints of sexual abuse by a former doctor for Ohio State’s wrestling team.

WASHINGTON ........................................

In the complaint, Democracy 21 President Fred Wertheimer and former White House chief ethics lawyer Norman Eisen say the Urbana Republican violated a clause in House rules requiring members of the House to conduct themselves “at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives.”

The complaint argues that “there is a direct and irreconcilable conflict between the public statements made by seven former Ohio State student wrestlers that Rep. Jordan knew wrestling team members were being sexually abused by the team doctor, and Rep. Jordan’s denial that he had any knowledge of the abuses.”

The watchdogs — Eisen was an ethics lawyer for the Obama administration — say that if the accounts are true and Jordan is lying, then the House Ethics Committee should investigate..........

10. Ryan is confused. He meant to say Rep. Jim Jeffords was a "man of integrity."

Jim Jeffords dies at 80; Vermont senator who left the GOP in 2001
By BY REBECCA BRATEK
AUG 18, 2014 | 5:09 PM

Although he made his career in politics, Jim Jeffords was a modest man who disliked cameras and speeches.

In May 2001, however, the three-term senator from Vermont found himself in the spotlight when he quit the Republican Party and tipped the Senate into Democratic hands. The GOP, he said at the time, no longer reflected the moderate principles in which he believed.

. . .

He decided not to run for a fourth term and retired from the Senate in 2007, citing his and his wife's health problems. His wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Daley, died that year.

In a statement, President Obama hailed the renegade Republican for "the fiercely independent spirit that made Vermonters, and people across America, trust and respect him."
