House Republicans Block Subpoena of Putin-Meeting Interpreter
Source: MSN
Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee blocked on Thursday a request by panel Democrats to subpoena the interpreter who attended President Trumps otherwise private meeting with Vladimir Putin on Monday.
After committee chairman Devin Nunes (R.,Calif.) initially refused to recognize Representative Adam Schiffs (D., Calif.) call for a vote to compel the interpreters private testimony, the panel defeated the motion along party lines, 116.
This is an extraordinary remedy, I realize, Schiff reportedly told his colleagues on the Committee. But then its extraordinary for the president of the United States to ask all of his senior staff essentials to leave the room and have a conversation with an adversary, and then in a public conversation disavow his own intelligence agencies and in many respects disavow his own country.
The White House has not been forthcoming with specifics about the substance of Mondays meeting in Helsinki, Finland, prompting condemnation from congressional Democrats eager to know what Trump and Putin discussed.

(9,350 posts)So, what is it that the Republicans are afraid will come out if the interpreter was forced to testify under oath? Are they scared that it will be proven that Russia and Putin have something on Trump? Are the scared that it will come out that Putin did try to sway our election in favor of Donald Trump? Are they scared it will be revealed that there was collusion between the Trump Campaign and Russia? If they have nothing to hide you would think the would want the interpreter to testify under oath.
