NRA, others sue Seattle over gun-storage law

Source: Associated Press

Updated 8:44 pm CDT, Friday, July 20, 2018

SEATTLE (AP) — The National Rifle Association, Second Amendment Foundation and two Seattle residents are suing the city over its new gun-safety law.

The lawsuit filed Friday in King County Superior Court says that the safe storage requirement violates Washington state law, which prevents cities from regulating guns, the Seattle Times reported .

"Seattle simply can't break the law to adopt an ordinance as a political statement," Bellevue, Washington-based Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb said in a statement.

Earlier this month, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed the legislation proposed by Mayor Jenny Durkan to require gun owners to lock up their firearms.

Best thing to do with their useless brains is to blow them out with their precious guns, and leave us all in peace...

8. Too bad Seattle city council did not use their brains to study their own laws

Otherwise they may have wisely invested their efforts into lobbying for statewide safe storage laws. They are pretty much handing a legal victory to the NRA. This was a political gesture that would never have taken effect. That is a shame because safe-storage laws make sense and will lower firearm deaths.

10. Probably a calculated move on Seattle's part to attack preemption

NRA challenges, Seattle can play the morality card and try to undermine preemption.

NRA doesn't challenge, and they get the law and it weakens the case of any future preemption lawsuits

Other than some legal costs, it's a win-win

This should be a state-wide law, but, well, lots of things should be a state-wide law. Democratic control of the State Senate is tenuous because of 2 odious backstabbers in the recent past.

Seattle's AG Pete Holmes has the ability and desire to fight this in the courts. Bring it, Gun Fucks.

3. In Washington State it is illegal for any other than the state to regulate firearms

Due to the State's firearm preemption laws which are (or should be) well known to the Seattle city-council and mayor.

And AG. This is deliberate.

Maybe the State Legislature can get off its lazy ass and change the law statewide.

13. Denton, Texas tried.

But ultimately, Texas was victorious and Denton was required to allow fracking against its resident's wishes.

So no... not just this one. Unless of course, the query was insincere and disingenuous merely to make a point allowing the pretense of cleverness.

After a few years for a test run, which created a patchwork of laws, preemeption was put back in place due to a lack of good results without it.

Don't mention this to any hard core NRA member....

Russian citizens over 18 years of age can obtain a firearms licence after attending gun-safety classes and passing a federal test and background check. The licence is for five years and may be renewed. Firearms may be acquired for self-defense, hunting, or sports activities. Carrying permits may be issued for hunting firearms licensed for hunting purposes. Initially, purchase is limited to long smooth-bore firearms and pneumatic weapons with a muzzle energy of up to 25 joules (18 ft?lbf). After five years of shotgun ownership, rifles may be purchased. Handguns are generally not allowed. Rifles and shotguns with barrels less than 500 mm (20 in) long are prohibited, as are firearms that shoot in bursts and have more than a 10-cartridge capacity. Suppressors are prohibited. An individual cannot possess more than ten guns (up to five shotguns and up to five rifles) unless they are part of a registered gun collection.[92]
