DUBAI (Reuters) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday cautioned U.S. President Donald Trump about pursuing hostile policies against Tehran, saying America should know ... war with Iran is the mother of all wars, but he did not rule out peace between the two countries, either. Iran faces increased U.S. pressure and looming sanctions after Trumps decision to withdraw the United States from a 2015 international deal over Irans nuclear program.
Addressing a gathering of Iranian diplomats, Rouhani said: Mr Trump, dont play with the lions tail, this would only lead to regret, the state new agency IRNA reported.
America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars, Rouhani said, leaving open the possibility of peace between the two countries which have been at odds since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Irans security and interests, Rouhani said, in an apparent reference to reported efforts by Washington to destabilize Irans Islamic government.

(59,501 posts)1) Israel - Netanyahu has spoken of the potential need for a military attack publicly. (and per Obama administartion people, privately urging a US attack) Here is one of many links - https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/netanyahu-we-will-stand-firm-against-iran-sooner-rather-than-later-1.6055907
2) Saudi Arabia - Both John Kerry and Bob Gates spoke of Saudi Arabia urging a US attack on Iran. Here's a link on Bob Gates that also explains a lot of the history. Iran is a bad actor, but it seems clear that our own actions (the Iraq war) Similarly, Israel's actions in Lebanon created the situation that enabled Iran to gain influence there. - https://www.brookings.edu/blog/order-from-chaos/2018/05/15/dont-let-israel-and-saudi-arabia-drag-the-u-s-into-another-war/
Not to mention, the Iranian comment balances war and peace -- yet, the headlines emphasize "war".

(11,841 posts)Of course theres always a back and forth with Israel. SA more recently as well. And Iran would do well to know they wouldn't fare well against either of them either.
Sure they'd both LOVE for the US to do their dirty work!! I'm sure we'd back them, but even with the idiot in chief we have now I dont think we'd start it on their behalf
But I dont think even trump has talked about war with Iran like he has NK.

(59,501 posts)likely. Here is a WP article that suggests that - https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2018/05/11/how-trumps-iran-deal-decision-may-lead-to-war/?utm_term=.2e0bd7b9660b
I don't think that Trump has spoken of a war with Iran in the same terms that he threatened NK. However, especially in the Israeli media, there has been a huge amount of talk about the Trump middle eastern plan being allying the Sunni nations and Israel through their mutual hatred of Iran. In the last week, the Netanyahu/Putin agreement on Syria is said to have had Trump's buy in.
I did NOT mentionTrump in refuting "only one" because I don't remember anything that overtly does.

(128,820 posts)when you go hyperbole, the entertainer that is playing the part as "President" in his sick reality show, can go toe to toe with the flowery bullshit language.
See his exchanges with Kim Jong-Un including one remark that became the title of a best-selling book.

(23,946 posts)another world war...and of course the headline seized on the mother of all wars words over the mother of all peace words...please recognize American propganda when you see it...Rouhani is not a man of war...see nuclear agreement shredded by Shitler, for example.

(128,820 posts)(and you might recall - notably over the last 25+ years) the use of "enhanced" language, whether in Arabic or Farsi, and of course the media focuses on that. But the difference TODAY is that we have a jackass in the WH who would magnify it by his own "flowery" hyperbolic language via tweets and more ridiculous "rallies" filled with hyperbolic word salads because Faux would highlight that for him and he will happily comply.
This has nothing to do with the Boltons or others who are neocons behind the scenes that would want to start a war and any propaganda behind that. I am talking about the fouling of the airwaves with more inane tweets from the WH toddler in response to this.

To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!

THIS is what I'm talking about. Escalating juvenile bullshit hyperbolic language that takes news cycles away from stuff like Tuppence's appearance here in Philly today and the protests that will greet him (a group is scheduled to dress in the red costumes that invoke "The Handmaids Tale". The Philly Inquirer published his draconian editorial in the paper yesterday. His distorted fetal brain thinks that Philadelphia is somehow a GOP stronghold and part of his deplorable "base" instead of the reality of a city that voted 6 to 1 for Hillary AGAINST this vermin.

(23,946 posts)Clearly Iran is being threatened, a few words back is kinda normal. Then for corporate media to clip a few words knowing full well that it is distortion of the words and completely twists the meaning...and they all do it as if together on the same page.
700 billion a year military has to be justified, in war or in peace, is that the reason for the corporate malfeasance bordering on criminal acts of disinformation?
Because I remember the Dixie Chicks...and yellow cake and aluminum tubes and fake intelligence and Powell at the UN.
BumRushDaShow
(128,820 posts)which is why my exhortation was actually to Rouhani, who basically does that sort of saber-rattling for his country's "conservative base" while obviously keeping "peace" on the table as a moderate (and hoping to keep sanctions off).
But it was predictable that no matter what, Faux would push an alert button about this and trigger the malfunctioning idiot in the WH to vomit forth the latest vitriol as a result.
And as a note, Reuters is the UK (right-leaning) equivalent to AP and it is in their interest to stir pots as they have done here.
