Corker compares revoking security clearances to Venezuela's dictatorship

Corker: Clearance threat "the kind of thing that happens in Venezuela"

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday criticized the Trump administration's decision to consider revoking security clearances for several ex-government officials who have been vocal about their opposition to President Donald Trump, adding that it's "the kind of thing that happens in Venezuela."

"I can't even believe that somebody at the White House thought up something like this," Corker said during an interview on MSNBC. "I mean, when you're going to start taking retribution against people who are your political enemies in this manner, that's the kind of thing that happens in Venezuela."

"So you just don't do that. I can't believe they even allowed it to be aired, to be honest," he said. "I mean, it's a banana republic kind of thing."
..............................................

Corker's comments come a day after the White House announced it was looking to remove security clearances held by former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former NSA Director Michael Hayden, former national security adviser Susan Rice and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.....................................

I think it is good that he started that particular conversation because the method being employed by trump and the GOP is the same as what Chavez did...but you are correct, he is all talk and no action, more puzzling when trump has insulted him repeatedly, one would think he would have some pride.

It is imperative that someone like Rachel Maddow, or anyone who is in the spotlight constantly provide a timeline of the decisions, and the decisions explained of course, that Hugo Chavez took in order to destroy Venezuela because for those of us who understand what happened there, we can see what the man-child and the GOP are doing to the USA.

It is imperative that people have something to compare to because the road is exactly the same for all those would-be dictators.

The most alarming and dangerous fact with what is happening in the USA is that, in Venezuela Chavez was in bed with Castro, but in the USA trump is in bed with Putin, there is no comparison on the power of each, so USA is in more danger than Venezuela was, and now see where that country is.

When you vote the latest SC Justice in, you will just be heading more quickly down that path. Kavanaugh's thoughts on the power of the Presidency seem pretty in line with Chavez.

Do something original. Campaign together with Phil Bredesen. Caucus with the Democrats for the remaining time you are in the Senate.

The democrats should be working on both Corker and Flake, they are leaving, this is their chance to become the true patriots they claim to be and stop supporting the man-child because so far they have been all talk, but no action to support their talk.

Need to leave the Rethugs and caucus with the Dems. What have you got to lose? You're dead politically and after this is all over your party will be dead politically.

He criticizes Trump fairly often, but keeps voting with him.

If he really meant it, he should become an independent and then caucus with the Democrats.

Or is this just more faux outrage without even pretending to take any action?

Censure the president. Bring up impeachment charges. Throw him out of office. Invoke the 25th amendment. Do something useful.
