Spotting CNN on a TV Aboard Air Force One, Trump Rages Against Reality

Source: NYT

WASHINGTON — On the first couple’s recent trip overseas, Melania Trump’s television aboard Air Force One was tuned to CNN. President Trump was not pleased.

He raged at his staff for violating a rule that the White House entourage should begin each trip tuned to Fox — his preferred network over what he considers the “fake news” CNN — and caused “a bit of a stir” aboard Air Force One, according to an email obtained by The New York Times. The email, an internal exchange between officials in the White House Military Office and the White House Communications Agency last Thursday, also called for the ordering of two additional televisions to support Beam, a TiVo-like streaming device, to make sure the president and first lady could both watch TV in their separate hotel rooms when they travel.

At the end of the email chain, officials confirmed that tuning the TVs to Fox would be standard operating procedure going forward.

The channel-flipping flap was the latest example of how Mr. Trump, at a pivotal moment in his presidency, is increasingly living in a world of selected information and bending the truth to his own narrative. As his aides work to keep him insulated from the outside world, Mr. Trump is doubling down in his efforts to tell supporters to trust him over the words of critics and news reports.

Interesting. Plus the mental picture of him flipping out over CNN on Melania’s tv. So many issues for this guy.

What the fuck!

A president that needs to be insulated from the outside world? The outside world should dictate what's going on inside the president's mind!

Clearly, Trump is making me LOSE MY FUCKING MIND!

one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. On a Virgin flight from SFO to DCA in 2014, Leader Pelosi boarded and sat in the middle seat next to me. She had brought a lot of work with her, as had I, so I thought it best to keep my cool and only gush briefly after we landed - though I was beside myself with excitement. I texted husband with the news and he's like "Get a selfie" and I'm like "No way". Anyway, Leader Pelosi had her seatback TV on, and kept alternating between CNN, MSNBC, and Bloomberg while she read through documents making notes. Then came the moment that all three of her alternates had commercials running. She had her finger poised over Fox, and she noticeably hesitated before finally pressing it. It was everything I could do to keep from laughing, nudging her, and saying "I know, right?"

Trump calls FCC decision on Sinclair-Tribune merger 'unfair'

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tribune-media-m-a-sinclair-ma-trump/trump-calls-fcc-decision-on-sinclair-tribune-merger-unfair-idUSKBN1KF02J

“So sad and unfair that the FCC wouldn’t approve the Sinclair Broadcast merger with Tribune. This would have been a great and much needed Conservative voice for and of the People,” Trump said in a post on Twitter.

Trump’s broadside was an unusual attack on a decision of an independent federal agency that makes merger decisions based on whether they in the public interest.

“Liberal Fake News NBC and Comcast gets approved, much bigger, but not Sinclair. Disgraceful!” Trump said in his tweet, referring to the 2011 approval of Comcast Corp’s acquisition of NBC Universal.

I'd probably say something that would get me fired. Such as, "Who made you God? I'll watch whatever I damn well please." I can't believe that people put up with that type of behavior. For starters, it's not his plane, it's the people's plane paid for with tax payer money.

Melania spokeswoman: She can watch 'any channel she wants'
BY BRETT SAMUELS - 07/25/18 10:51 AM EDT

A spokeswoman for Melania Trump said Wednesday the first lady watches "any channel she wants" in response to a report that President Trump was upset she tuned in to CNN on a recent trip abroad.
....

The New York Times reported Tuesday that President Trump grew upset when he saw the first lady’s television aboard Air Force One tuned to CNN during a recent trip to Europe.

The president frequently derides CNN as “fake news” and caused “a bit of a stir” when he saw CNN on Air Force One, the Times reported, citing an email containing an internal exchange about it between White House officials.
