BY KYLE BALLUCK - 07/29/18 09:19 AM EDT

President Trump warned on Sunday that he would be willing to "shut down" the government over border security.

The president in an earlier tweet on Sunday morning said "many" border crossers are using children for "sinister purposes." He also blasted existing U.S. immigration laws and urged followers to vote for Republicans.

UPDATE:

Trump threatens again to shut down government over border wall, escalating stakes ahead of a Sept. 30 government funding deadline

By Washington Post Staff
July 29 at 10:02 AM

President Trump threatened to shut down the federal government if Congress does not pass sweeping changes to immigration laws, including appropriating more public money to build his long-promised border wall.

"I would be willing to 'shut down' government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall!" Trump tweeted. "Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!"

Trump's threat raises the stakes ahead of a Sept. 30 government funding deadline, a political showdown before the November midterms that Republican congressional leaders had hoped to avoid. The president had previously threatened to shut the government down if Democrats did not agree to fund wall construction but ultimately signed past spending bills.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

The GOP cherry-picks who are considered "essential personnel" and as a minimum, it's almost always the LEO in DHS (the civilians? not so much).

And then the lazy media runs over to the nearest National Park completely exasperated with a camera and microphone, and points out the barriers being erected with "Closed" signs being tied to them in front of a park entrance, as if they are the only ones who work for the federal government that are being impacted.

And he's got it all mapped out
And illustrated with cartoons
Too hard for clever folks to understand
They're more used to words like:
Ideology
They're not talkin' 'bout right and left
They're talkin' 'bout
Right and wrong, do you know the difference
Right and wrong, do you know the difference
'Tween the right and the left and the east and the west
What you know and the things that you'll never see
So what ya think
You like the Yankees or the Mets this year
And what about this latest war of words
And what about the Commies
I saw the news last night
All illustrated with cartoons
So when they come with that opinion poll
They better not use words like
Ideology

...and forget about Carnival Cruz's "Green Eggs and Ham" serenade on the Senate floor in an attempt to block ACA funding included in the FY14 appropriations, thus helping to lead to the 2013 shutdown (and furlough - because I know *I* was furloughed for those 2 weeks).

Ryan: Trump willing to be patient on wall funding
Source: The Hill

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Thursday indicated President Trump is easing up on his demand for border wall funding in the next major government spending bill, a move that would lower the odds of a shutdown in October.

”The president’s willing to be patient to make sure that we get what we need so we can that done,” Ryan said, adding that funding the wall was "not a question of if, it’s a question of when."

In May, Trump said he was going to “demand” that any stopgap measure to keep the government operating past Sept. 30 include funds to “secure the border.” The tweet was widely seen as a threat that he would veto any continuing resolution (CR), prompting a government shutdown, if the spending measure does not included funding for the border wall.

Ryan and McConnell met with Trump at the White House on Wednesday to discuss their strategy for funding the government. Congress is planning to pass most appropriations bills in batches and then send them to the president for his signature ahead of Sept. 30, the last day of the fiscal year.

If we and the media boycotted or mostly ignored his tweets and yo-yo sound bites, he'd lose his most effective tool.

This is not how Government works.

You don't take your ball and go home when you don't get your way.

If your thing is not the will of the people (or the congresscritters representing them) you take the hint and compromise, or demur.

Ted Cruz did to shut down the government. That didn't go so well for Cruz as he's battling for his political life now in Texas. People hate him and knows anyone who lies as much as he does is probably very corrupt also. They both are lying con men, and a President threatening to hurt the USA and its people shows he's not putting America first at all, he's putting trump first, and always will.

Make sure you stop the Social Security checks of the segment of the American people who votes in the greatest percentage, and keep those checks locked up until after the election. Yeah, that’ll show those damn Democrats who won’t give you your wall!
