After making merit and prayers everyone is ready for the main feature of the day, a huge potluck.
There are always a few 'farang' that are obviously there with relatives and look a little lost and I try and sit with them.
This time was a woman in her sixties looking a little lost and I sit across from her. She is there with her daughter in law, her son is at work.
It turns out she has had some real life challenges and refers to a time that she was on the street. I ask her how she was able to get off the street and get a job. She relates that she lucked into a job and she would sleep under a bridge and go to a nearby house early in the morning and use the hose as a shower, dry off and go to work and after a month she got an apartment for the first time in years.
I tell her how much I admire her courage and determination, that it is a great accomplishment and she should feel very proud of it.
She warms to me and her daughter in law comes and sits with us and I ask her how long she has been in the US. She has been married for 5 years but just got here 1 year ago, she had to wait for a visa for 4 years after she was married because she was working in a hotel at Pattaya (where a lot of prostitution exists).
I told them if it happens again that I have a tip "next time make an appointment and go to your congressman's office because they love to assist in constituent problems because if they can help they know that you will tell everyone how great they are even if you don't like their politics".
The older woman says "We went to McSally's office a dozen times" They told her that they would only help her get a visa "AFTER" she got to the US which is beyond absurdity.
The woman says "Well I hear the Kelli Ward is much better". I kind of laugh and say "I am sorry that you are misinformed, Kelli Ward is a nut". I explain how she attends Chem trail controversies and how her husband's twitter account accused McCain of being an ISIS supporter. She is about to say something when I hold up my hand and said "even Trump is angry at her". I show her an article from the day before how she went to Mar alargo and paid $ 5000 to stay a night and get a personal photo with Trump. When they realized who she was they made her promise not to use it in the campaign or imply an endorsement, which of course she did and the Trump people made a big complaint in AZ.
The MIL goes to get some more food and the daughter in law sits down and I tell her that the Republicans won't do anything for 'brown people'. The young woman is from a very rural area and speaking with her I know that she would have been lucky to get a 6 year education, she is a simple uneducated person but her answer shocks me. She says "But I am white". Looking at this beautiful very dark brown woman I realize that the husband, who is a long term but very low ranking enlisted man in the military is an anti black racist who has filled her with anti black stories so she identifies as "white" even though she is very dark.
I look at her and tell her that McSally didn't help her and kept her apart from her husband for 4 years because she wasn't white like this and I point to my arm.
As we are going to the car we see them get into a van and the back of the van is covered with Trump and Ward signs and custom printing, it is a moving billboard.
They tortured and rejected this family for 4 years and they are still voting for Republicans, simply because they are the 'whitest'. That is all that matters. Literally the only thing.
