Illinoiss attorney general is suing a Chicago property owned by President Trumps company, alleging that it is violating environmental laws meant to protect the Chicago River.
The Trump International Hotel and Tower takes in nearly 20 million gallons of water daily from the river for cooling various systems and puts it back at a higher temperature.
...............................................................
Madigan also alleged in Cook County court that the Trump Towers permit to use the water under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System expired nearly a year ago.
Trump Tower continues to take millions of gallons of water from the Chicago River every day without a permit and without any regard to how it may be impacting the rivers ecosystem, Madigan said in a Tuesday statement. I filed my lawsuit to make sure Trump Tower cannot continue violating the law.
The Trump Chicago property is owned by the Trump Organization, the real estate firm owned by Trump through a revocable trust.............................................

(3,063 posts)a cease & desist order and fine them for an expired license.
Then when they apply for a renewal change the terms to
include returning the water at the proper temperature and free of any chemicals or pollutants.
All to the tune of "Cry Me a River".

(18,402 posts)Those large buildings sited on the river take it directly themselves. Heres an explanation from the Tribune earlier this summer:
Like other large users that draw water directly from rivers or lakes, Trump Tower is required to follow federal and state regulations detailing how facilities should limit the number of fish pinned against intake screens or killed by sudden changes in pressure and temperature.
Yet of the nearly dozen high-rises that rely on the Chicago River for cooling water, the decade-old skyscraper developed by Donald Trump is the only one that has failed to document it took those measures, state records show. Trumps Chicago managers also havent conducted a study of fish killed by the luxury hotel and condominium complex another step required five years ago by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in a permit for the buildings water intakes.

(4,313 posts)And also to your father, Mike Madigan. Two great Democrats that have done much for Illinois and our country.
I know there are anti-Madigan people on this site. But you'll never change my mind. From the Madigan's support of unions and the middle class, to their standing up to Rauner's attempted takeover of Illinois, to fighting Trump, they show what public service should be about: Improving people's lives.
Now go ahead naysayers, attack away. I can take it.
