Trump Resisted Lowering Flag Because He Thought McCain Coverage Was Excessive

Source: TPM

While he eventually agreed to lower the White House flag in honor of Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) passing — after receiving criticism from veterans — President Donald Trump was resistant to the gesture because he thought McCain’s death was getting too much news coverage.

According to people familiar with the situation who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, Trump thought the reporting on McCain’s passing, just one day after his family announced he would stop seeking medical treatment for his brain cancer, was “over-the-top and more befitting a president,” in WSJ’s words.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reportedly played a leading role in convincing the President to agree to lower the flags again and issue a proclamation on McCain’s death.

“It was 99 percent Sarah,” and partially Chief of Staff John Kelly’s influence that got Trump to change his mind, a senior White House official told WSJ.

He hasn't got the decency to follow basic rules of protocol on behalf of the nation. And in the end he made McCain look better and himself look worse!

Would his base really think less of him for keeping that flag lowered? I don't think so. It's just his own hurt feelings he wanted to salve.

People who didn't like John McCain are saying nice things about him today in respect for the principles of common decency, but I think the best Trump will be able to hope for is to be buried in an unmarked grave so that it won't be desecrated.

Which inadvertently led to more attention for the dead man but got Trump in the news cycle again, albeit negatively.

Then this morning Trump googled himself and still not liking what he saw attacked google for the news reporting on the scandals he's involved in and not praising him.

85-90% of Republicans support this man as president.

Because HE was a war hero for this country and he wasn't, and also because the Steele dossier was given to him . This was all for revenge with anything to hurt him , or his reputation with, and now his legacy. Anyone in the military should realize trump doesn't respect you for what you're doing , no matter what he says and claims. He praises Putin , then trashes an American war hero.

Actually, coverage of Donnie Two Scoops' death will be something like, "Donald Trump died in prison today. Now let's look at the weather. What's tomorrow going to be like, Skippy?"
