The White House said in a statement that Donald Trump would visit Ireland in November
Politicians and activists have said they will be holding a protest during the visit of US President Donald Trump to Ireland in November.
...............................
Following the announcement, the Government said that Mr Trumps visit will be an "opportunity to follow up on the issues discussed in the White House in March including migration, trade, climate change and human rights issues".
However, the Labour Party, Green Party and Solidarity-People Before Profit have pledged to organise protests surrounding the visit.
In a statement, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan said: "We're calling on Irish people to tell our Government to cancel this visit; and for them to demonstrate in never-before-seen numbers should they fail to do so."........................................

Donald Trump mocked the Irish classic Danny Boy during an Ohio rally. It was just the latest diss for a song that should be taken far more seriously as an Irish and world classic.
President Donald Trump dissed the classic Irish song Danny Boy on an election stop in Ohio this week. The Republican Partys Troy Balderson was up against Danny OConnor on the Democrats side. Trump as usual went for a derogatory name for his opponent. Among other things, Trump said:
"A vote for 'Danny Boy' and the Democrats is a vote to let criminals and drugs pour into our country.
Associating Danny Boy with crime and drugs does the song a great injustice not that Donald Trump should care, but Irish Americans should.
Now there are few Irish Americans out there who have at some point not been drawn into an argument about Danny Boy, a/k/a The Londonderry Air. Usually its at 3am in the morning, after a screeching rendition of the Irish American anthem after a few pints too many.......................................................

(11,097 posts)Trump didn't diss the song, he dissed O'Connor's Irish name. He knows there are way more folks with Irish names in the US than there are in Ireland - right?
Gawd, how stupid.

(1,896 posts)The Taoiseach has said the news that US President Donald Trump is to visit Ireland "came a little bit out of the blue".
Leo Varadkar said there is a standing invitation for any US President to come to Ireland and many have in the past.
But speaking on the Marty Squad on RTÉ Radio 1 this evening, the Taoiseach said the Government had not known until "just a couple of days ago" that President Trump would be taking advantage of his trip to Paris for the Armistice anniversary to visit Dublin and Doonbeg in Co Clare.
He said a programme for the visit had not yet been worked out but any schedule would have to respect the fact that we will be inaugurating a President on 11 November.

It looks like Varadkar was a little surprised, and we at least have the possibility that there will be a "schedule conflict" preventing the visit.
