Germany's Heiko Maas: 'Get up off the sofa and speak up' against far right

Source: Politico-Europe

‘If the Hitler salute is shown on our streets today once again, it will be a disgrace to our country.’

By PAUL DALLISON 9/2/18, 12:11 PM CET Updated 9/2/18, 12:17 PM CET

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said citizens must do more to tackle racism and the far right in the wake of a week of often violent protests in Chemnitz.

Mass told Bild am Sonntag that people must “get up off the sofa and speak up.”

“We must stand up to the right-wing extremists. We can’t duck away. We must show our faces against neo-Nazis and anti-Semites,” he said. “Only then will Germany’s reputation not be permanently marred by xenophobic crimes.”

He continued, “If the Hitler salute is shown on our streets today once again, it will be a disgrace to our country.”

....ignored and needs to be stopped and countered immediately and Heiko Mass is right.

Meanwhile, if someone can figure out how to translate this article in today's Spiegel Magazine in Germany or a translated story link, that would be great. It is titled essentially "How to identify a Nazi"..... It is universal and can be applied here too. Contains links to important info about symbols and numbers (88) for example.

Scary times indeed and people need to wake up....

It has become harder to recognize Nazis straight away. For a long time they usually marked themselves clearly, with shaved heads, knight boots and so on. In the meantime, Nazis often have so-called meat tunnels in their earlobes, they wear goats and hoodies. Some look like fat bouncers, others like the drunkards who hang around shopping malls and spit on passers-by.

Perhaps that is also the reason that some people, for example in Chemnitz, at the moment seem to have difficulty recognizing when demonstrating with Nazis. Do not worry, dear Chemnitz, this is not only for you - an aging West German journalist asked this week at Twitter, if you do not negate the crimes of the Nazi era, if you call "any right-wing Dumpfbacke Nazi". You see - the confusion goes far.

The Hitler salute, simply explained

So here are a few simple hints. The easiest way to recognize Nazis in public is the so-called Hitler salute. Surely I do not have to explain who Adolf Hitler was, but I must remind him once again that together with other despicable people he made sure that factories were built with the purpose of killing people. Who raises the right arm to Hitler salute, signals that he considers the industrially organized mass murder of millions of people, the biggest crime in history, for a step in the right direction. The Hitler salute is therefore prohibited in Germany.

Another distinguishing feature are the slogans that the Nazis chant when they want to feel strong together: "free, social and national", "here the national resistance marches" and "Germany the Germans, foreigners out". If you find yourself in or next to a group that chants such sayings, Nazis are very simple. The repertoire is not too big, many Nazis are rather simple minds.

The nutty symbolism and codes are mind blowing and things we have to recognize. While all white males are not Nazis, most Nazis are white males.

it is impossible for non-Nazis to ally with Nazis temporarily and purposefully. Anyone marching alongside Nazis is either a Nazi himself or a useful idiot of the Nazis. There are no other categories.

So if you find yourself attending a rally involving Nazis, go home quickly. If you see Hitler salutes, swastikas or even violent attacks, inform the police.

However, if you consider the industrially organized mass murder of millions of people to be a good idea, I hope that starting today, you will dream every night of people desperately trying to escape the gas. And then wake up screaming. Maybe that helps.

It's embarrassing as hell -- and it should be. I also would love to see that article translated and spread all over the place. It gives a very bald description of Hitler and his factories.

By the way, I was impressed with that Google translation.
