Flooding Causes Massive Delays at O'Hare, Closes Surrounding Roads

Source: NBC5

Monday's heavy rains caused a mess near O'Hare International Airport.

Arrivals were still delayed as of 10 p.m. and late by more than an hour on average. Departures were also running behind, so the airport urges travelers to check their flight status. The weather canceled hundreds of flights and delayed more than a thousand others — some passengers say they circled the airport for hours.

Crews worked to clean up leaks inside the terminal that left passengers frustrated. Rainwater ran down the walls and pooled on the floor as passengers arrived at O’Hare.

Some passengers had to walk through standing water in the international terminal.

That video of the people getting out of their cars/cabs and walking barefoot on the roads while dragging their luggage through the water is crazy!

we had terrible thunderstorms. The lightning "fried" the internet cable coming into the house. Waited a week for the repairman to show up. He worked Labor Day, and had a list of 200 repairs after he came here. He said he had never seen anything like it. I had so many e-mails lined up, it was tiring, hitting the "delete" key. So happy to have service restored, though. O'Hare is a mess without bad weather, so very busy.

I was so concerned about the protest that was planned to "shut down O'Hare," that I told her and her travel companion to leave Madison really early. I had no idea it would be flooding that would cause massive delays. They ditched their car in an outer lot and took a train and shuttle to get to the international terminal, and departed only an hour late. They were among the fortunate ones.
