Poll: Democrats regain clear advantage in midterms shaping up as referendum on President Trump

Source: Washington Post

Two months ahead of the midterm elections, Democrats hold a clear advantage over Republicans in congressional vote support, with antipathy toward President Trump fueling Democratic enthusiasm, even among those in the party who stayed home four years ago, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds.

Registered voters say they favor the Democratic candidate over the Republican candidate in their district by 52 percent to 38 percent. That is a marked increase from the four-point edge in an April Post-ABC poll but similar to the 12-point advantage Democrats enjoyed in January.

Because of the overall makeup of congressional districts, analysts have long said that Democrats would need a clear advantage on this “generic ballot” question, and in the national popular vote for the House, if they hope to flip the 23 seats needed to take control. The Post-ABC poll puts Democrats in a stronger position today than some other recent surveys, which showed them with an edge of about eight points on this measure.

Probably "Greens" who might have considered being registered as "unaffiliated" BumRushDaShow Sep 2018 #4
More likely to be residual democrats in states like KY, WV etc. Lucky Luciano Sep 2018 #6

and thus might not be able to vote in "closed primary" states... So instead they register as "Democrats" in order to vote in a local primary and then vote "Green" in the general (if there are candidates running).... Thus hoping to fulfill the "you have to destroy the village to save it" nonsense.

eg The crazy lady refusing to marry gay people in KY - she was a democrat until the controversy pushed her to change parties. Probably a bunch of these redneck rejects still exist.

I expect there are a number of them like this who didn't bother changing their registrations - although... they probably shouldn't have reported themselves as "Democrats" in that case, particularly if they vote straight ticket Republican where they live, as I doubt the poll actually verifies how they are registered outside of asking.

"The latest survey also asked whether people had voted in 2014, and among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who say they did not, 63 percent say they are absolutely certain to vote in November."

I vote in Detroit and this was the busiest midterm primaries I've seen in a while. I think that's a good sign for what may occur in November...as long as all GOTV tactics are enacted. People are motivated in bringing in a new wave (blue) to finally put this clown in his place.

With that being said, I'm always nervous and skeptical of polls now. I try not to hope things are a setup for disappointment.
