The mostly positive publicity outweighs the outrage on Twitter
Nikes been backing controversial athletes since Prefontaine
The controversy surrounding Nike Inc.s new Colin Kaepernick ad cant be a surprise to the sportswear company. And in spite of the backlash, its probably pretty good for the brand.

In less than 24 hours since Kaepernick first revealed the spot on Twitter, Nike received more than $43 million worth of media exposure, the vast majority of it neutral to positive, according to Apex Marketing Group. That far outweighs the risk of alienating some customers, said Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing executive at Baker Street Advertising.

Whats more, he said, the move sends a strong signal to their current roster of athletes and positions Nike as a savvy risk-taker. Its not a move that any company can make, but for Nike its definitely smart business, Dorfman said.

(1,652 posts)It's a global brand. Everyone in the whole world hates Dump except for a third of the U.S. Nike doesn't need Deplorables, if anything they drag down the brand.
Reminds me of the ad agency that took out a full-page NYT article stating that they were refusing to do tobacco ads because tobacco was proved to harm health (a real event that was "re-enacted" in the show MAD MEN).

(9,090 posts)because 100's of university and pro sports teams broadcast on hundreds of the loudest right wing radio stations in the country.
trump is nothing without the continued support of 1500 radio stations spearheaded by limbaugh, who makes excuses for trump all day and averages saying "trump" more than once per minute for 3 hrs a day - all good.
limbaugh led the attacks on kaepernick the same way he led the attacks on trayvon martin and mike brown and then ferguson protestors and black lives matter, asking don't white lives matter too?
limbaugh warned nfl owners they'd lose audience if they gave kneelers jobs. then trump filled it in.
these 88 universities broadcast on 260+ limbaugh stations and are fucking stupid to keep supporting the racism and global warming and defunding public ed.
all someone like kap or lebron would have to do is point out KKK radio depends on black athletes and advertisers will head for the hills, finally destroying trump/putin radio

and, this....
Soon, Trump supporters will only be able to wear clothes they made themselves. Fortunately for them, no one will notice the difference. (Levi Strauss teams up with gun control group: "We cannot stand by silently" )
