College of the Ozarks drops Nike after Colin Kaepernick controversy
Source: KMBC
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo.
The College of the Ozarks an NAIA school in Point Lookout, Missouri said in a release Wednesday that it will choose its country over company and will remove all athletic uniforms purchased from Nike or that contain the Nike emblem.
The private Christian college said student-athletes will no longer wear the Nike brand in response to the company's 30th-anniversary ad campaign featuring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
In their new ad campaign, we believe Nike executives are promoting an attitude of division and disrespect toward America, said College of the Ozarks President Jerry C. Davis.
If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them. We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.

It will be interesting to see who they select for their uniforms now, but I would NOT want to be that company.

(9,090 posts)trump and the racist cons depend heavily on RW radio - at least 88 universities endorse over 260 limbaugh stations - republiconradio.org
if those unis started pulling out of rw radio the advertisers would head for the hills and the entire propaganda operation would fall apart.
and where would putin be without limbaugh?

(1,336 posts)Many years ago, my sister who lived with her husband in Decatur, Illinois, was expecting a baby. My mother decided to travel there from Toronto to be with her prior to and after delivery. She flew to Chicago and then transferred to a puddle jumper on Ozark Airlines to Decatur. I remember at the time we thought of the Ozarks as hillbilly country and were concerned that she'd have to use a rope ladder to get into the airplane. Okay, not nice! But for those of us in southern Ontario, that's what we thought........seems things haven't changed much......
And another thing -- my sister's ob/gyn was affiliated with a Catholic hospital. She delivered 5 weeks overdue (baby weighed 10 1/2 pounds) because those in charge decided it was not "God's will" to induce delivery......for the rest of her life she endured severe back pain, which, as a nurse, she attributed to that severely delayed delivery.
I despise the Catholic Church.
Ozarks Airlines was an excellent regional carrier in its day based out of St. Louis. I flew them and knew people that worked for them. Eventually they were bought out by TWA.

(64,995 posts)There are catholic hospitals all around us, and not one of them refuses to induce labor.
In fact the hospital my wife and i have gone to (her for surgery, me for tests) has a staff that i GUARANTEE is less than majority catholic.
And i'm totally irreligious. Don't believe in it at all. But, catholic hospitals do not do this as a matter of course.
BOTH of my sisters kids were induced.

(1,336 posts)have changed! But even in 1971, my husband had to ask my Catholic obstetrician the big question: In an emergency, would your first responsibility be to save the life of my wife, or that of my child? He answered in favour of the former (!)
ProfessorGAC
(64,995 posts)That long ago, i can believe. In fact, i would believe it would happen in some of those hospitals routinely, as in every day.
My sister's kids were born in the mid to late 90's.

(6,831 posts)First, Nike NEVER mentioned religion in anything. And I am sick to death of having christianofascism shoved down my throat everyday.
Second, you have already paid for the uniforms. I doubt that your little back-woods college of inter bred, swamp farts will be able to replace the very expensive, technologically advanced, uniforms and gear that Nike provides.
Third, you have not only stepped all over yourself in trying to be holier than thou on an issue you obviously don't understand (Don't they teach the bible at religious colleges ?), but you did it with cleats on.
This has nothing to do with religion or god or jesus, so, climb down off the cross.
You rednecks really do need to get out more often.

(170 posts)Looking at College of Ozark's athletic program, they don't do football. Instead, they do baseball, and basketball.
Their baseball stadium is pretty pathetic:

(70,490 posts)Nike already has studied the bottom line of backing Colin Kaepernick and they are
gonna make tons of money now and for years to come with this move. For selling athletic
gear give me the 12 to 40 year old men's market and you can have the 60+ old
white guy's market with their need for white shoes with crepe souls.
Nike is also pushing hard for the African American and the women's market too
w/their new campaign.

(22,112 posts)like the rest of us in the normal world. This school (and several others) in Springfield MO are basically propaganda mechanisms for the ultra religious nuts that live down there. They still believe that the Earth was created 6000 years ago.
This alone tells one loads of stuff about these people. Don't listen to common sense nor logic. Pathetic and a bunch of losers that wouldn't be able to get into a normal state college or other colleges because their students don't know anything other than quoting the verses that they were taught in bible schools (the verses that the schools only wanted you to learn). I wouldn't want any of them, if they were doctors or technicians, etc. to ever treat me or my loved ones, for you'll eventually die from mistreatment. I know that perhaps I am being extreme, but it goes to show you how other people who live down there in southern MO feel truly about these people.
LiberalLovinLug
(14,173 posts)And they promote the military as the ultimate sacrifice to country.
Um.....I thought they believed the military fought the last centuries wars for our "freedoms", among other things, the freedom to protest. To live in a free country, one of the other benefits of which is freedom of religion? Isn't that what the country is all about?
So they are perfectly happy to accept the freedom won to preach their cult and tax free at that. But freedom to protest, especially against something they have no real interest in, is something to be "ashamed" of.
