Affidavit: 12-year-old points gun at teacher, pulls trigger

Source: Associated Press

Updated 4:25 pm CDT, Saturday, September 8, 2018

ELDRIDGE, Iowa (AP) — Court documents say a 12-year-old Iowa boy pointed a gun at his teacher's face and pulled the trigger, but the safety was on.

The Courier reports that court documents say the boy entered a North Scott Junior High classroom on Aug. 31 with a .22-caliber handgun and ordered everyone to the floor before he tried to shoot the teacher. Investigators say when the loaded gun failed to fire, the teacher wrestled it away from him.

The boy is charged with attempted murder, having a weapon on school grounds and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. He remains in the Scott County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Associated Press doesn't generally name juveniles charged with crimes.

and teachers got armed, the kid would be most likely dead now. It's funny how this is the topic where they never admit what the cause of the problem is.

If you are 12 years old and do something like this, you are clearly troubled. But the parents should have picked up on that and not have their weapons lie around at the disposal of their young children.

since it actually had a working safety. Most guns nowadays don't. glock made that popular. all they have is a trigger safety - but it disngages when you pull the trigger, so it isn't really much of a safety feature. accidental firings are so common there is a term called a glock knee. meaning you shot yourself in the leg putting your gun back in its holster......

It takes a good lunatic with a gun to stop a bad lunatic with a gun.

And judging by GOP politics, they all are crazy enough for a concealed carry permit.

Someone who has a gun doesn't know the safety is on....

Does the 2ns Amendment allow for giving "the right to bear arms" to people who don't know how to use those arms?

Teachers would have guns and kids would find a way to get them and use them and more people die because of russian repug policies.

Is it time now to talk about the issues of failed gun control.

Disclaimer: I accept the Amendments as "settled law" but something has to be done and soon.
