NFL not expected to implement new national anthem policy this season

Source: ESPN

8:06 AM ET

Adam Schefter
ESPN Senior Writer

The NFL is not expected to implement a new policy on the national anthem this season, league sources told ESPN, no matter how many meetings and conversations occur regarding the topic.

The new policy is going to be no policy -- at least for this season, according to sources. Too many people have stances too strong to figure out a compromise, although talks will continue.

Players began sitting or kneeling during the anthem in 2016 to protest racial inequality, police brutality and other issues. The protests have become a divisive topic of debate, and the NFL and players' union still haven't said whether players will be punished this season if they choose to kneel or demonstrate during the anthem.

The NFL passed a new anthem policy in May, but those rules were put on hold to allow the league and union to further discuss the issue.

Not to mention a civil suit by the union would have the First Amendment as it's only needed trial exhibit...we rest our case, your Honor! We will be wanting costs....lots of costs....

NFL got some good legal advice on this one, and Shitler is his own lawyer, is all.

I got up late and was still stumbling around waiting for the drugs to kick in. Thanx for reminding me.

I hope the Steelers are gentle with them, but at least there should be a lot more elbow room in my virtual seat with all the idiots claiming they're boycotting it. I know they were lying.

Fingers crossed, but the pain of a loss isn't as devastating as it used to be.

...they should only protest alone at home, in their closet... with the light out. I thought at first it was all about seeing black people protesting that raised their ire, but as I recall, they stopped showing the anthem on one network, and that raised their blood pressure even more. Suddenly, the anthem became the only part of the game they were interested in. Without it, they claimed they would continue their boycott.

Of course it has nothing to do with the flag, the anthem, or patriotism. It's pure unadulterated racism. It's the right's desire from the president down that black people stop complaining about being discriminated against. It's their lust to see African Americans succumb to the demands of their white overlords and stop being so "uppity".

I find some satisfaction in knowing that those blowhards who insist they will never watch another NFL game are doing so today in their closet with the light out.

Hey NFL owners, here's a pro tip: Don't answer the telephone when the orange anus tries to call.

And never will be under current NFL ownership rules. He couldn't afford it anyway.
