Hurricane Florence poses an extreme threat to Southeast and Mid-Atlantic

Source: Washington Post

Hurricane Florence is tracking toward the East Coast with invariability rarely seen in storms several days away from landfall. While forecasters were careful to cite “high uncertainty” and “low model confidence” last week, their tone changed after watching the storm’s eventual path barely shift from what they had considered to be the worst-case scenario.

On Sunday evening, the National Hurricane Center was forecasting Florence to become a strong Category 4 just prior to making landfall somewhere on the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic coast on Thursday.

With each passing flight into the eye of the storm and every new forecast from the global weather models, it is increasingly unlikely Florence will turn out to sea and spare the Eastern Seaboard from potentially devastating storm surge, flooding and wind. There’s even some indication the hurricane will slow or stall out over the Mid-Atlantic later this week, which could lead to a disastrous amount of rain.

“There is an increasing risk of two life-threatening impacts from Florence: Storm surge at the coast and freshwater flooding from a prolonged heavy rainfall event inland,” the National Hurricane Center wrote Sunday. Storm surge is the rise in ocean water above normally dry land at the coast, which can inundate homes, roads and businesses.

This liberal lives in North Myrtle, get the point and my senators, congress rep and most, not all
are all trumpeters. If cat 4 gets ready to hit we're out of here. Heading south to
Atlanta to survive with relatives. I think a lot of the north area is going to take a hit also
by the forecast. Guess we'll find out about Wednesday evening on what is going to go down.

Good luck to all in Florence's path.

Live in North Myrtle, surfing should be good for awhile. Beach was great
on Saturday and Sunday. May not be on Thursday and Friday.

One storm we had a few years ago we went down town to the beach and
some guy was kayaking on the street, was pretty funny to see. Living life on the
beach hurricanes or sharks taking a bite from you for dinner, your choice. lol

My son bought a condo in NMB. Hubby and I stayed there last November, December. Left just before the snow came in. This year we plan to stay through Jan. I do want to do some kayaking this year, but not in the street..
This was just a trip with friends to check out the fall SOS, but we figure first responders will have enough to do without 5 old ladies from Colorado with no clue what to do.

Stay safe down there.

If it is a cat 3 with the high winds we're gone. We stayed for a cat 2, little hairy but
with all the neighbors we had a good time when everything settled down. Power out
but gas grill worked fine along with the gas stove. Had coffee so everything was great.

Kayaking on the Waccama river right next to me should be fun afterwards, with the current
you should be able to make Georgetown in about 20 min.

The US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will be facing a hit from Hurricane Isaac at about the same time that Florence hits our mainland.

See: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at4.shtml?cone#contents

These folks are still recovering from Hurricane Maria! Will Trump's gang delay or refuse help again?

Remember what Hugo did to Charlotte and the mountains.

I'm so happy we are being missed -- last year killed us, and we haven't 100% recovered -- but sad so many friends and family are getting slammed.
