Brett Kavanaugh Explains His Abortion-Inducing Drugs Comment
The Supreme Court nominee followed up on his controversial comments in a written statement.
By Alanna Vagianos
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh said he was simply recounting the plaintiffs views in a 2015 lawsuit when he used the phrase abortion-inducing drugs to describe birth control during his confirmation hearing last week.
That was the position of the plaintiffs in that case, and I was accurately describing the plaintiffs position, Kavanaugh wrote in response to a follow-up question from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released Wednesday.

It was a technical matter of filling out a form, in that case with ― that ― they said filling out the form would make them complicit in the provision of the abortion-inducing drugs that they were - as a religious matter, objected to, Kavanaugh said in response to Cruzs question.
<snip>
Kavanaugh didnt use that term because he misunderstands the basic science of birth control ― the fact that birth control prevents fertilization of eggs in the first place. He used that term because its a dog whistle to the extreme right, Clinton tweeted.

(752 posts)Is "They said" followed by an actual quote, or by a Kavanaugh summary?
If the former, show it, and if the latter, the politifact discussion is
complete nonsense thru-and-thru.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh said he would have shaken hands and spoken with the father of a Parkland school shooting victim who tried to greet him at the hearing last week had he realized who he was.
Kavanaugh said Guttenberg approached him "from behind and touched my arm," he said he didn't recognize him and "assumed he was a protestor." A "split second" later, security intervened, he said. Had he known, he would have expressed his sympathy and listened to Guttenberg.
"I unfortunately did not realize that the man was the father of a shooting victim from Parkland, Florida. Mr. Guttenberg has suffered an incalculable loss. If I had known who he was, I would have shaken his hand, talked to him, and expressed my sympathy. And I would have listened to him," he added. Guttenberg's daughter, Jaime, was 14 when she died in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/kavanaugh-says-he-did-not-realize-parkland-victims-father-was-approaching-him/ar-BBNg2h9

"Kavanaugh On Going Into Debt For Baseball Tickets: 'I'm A Huge Sports Fan,' The Hill, 9 hrs. ago. SC nominee Brett Kavanaugh is providing senators with new details on a question that has stumped lawmakers and captured the media's attention: Why did he go into debt to buy baseball tickets? In written responses released Wed. night, he said that he is a "huge sports fan."
"When the Nationals came to D.C. in 2005, I purchased 4 season tickets in my name every season from 2005 through 2017. I also purchased playoff packages for the 4 years that the Nationals made the playoffs." He ran up tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt in order to buy baseball tickets for his friends and himself. The story sparked months of questions - and an investigation by ProPublica about the debt and who went to the games.
But Kavanaugh said he had a group of "old friends" who would split the games included in a season ticket pass. "We would usually divide the tickets in a 'ticket draft' at my house. Everyone paid me for their tickets based on the cost of the tickets, to the dollar," he added. None of the friends "overpaid or underpaid me for tickets. No loans were given in either direction." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/kavanaugh-on-going-into-debt-for-baseball-tickets-im-a-huge-sports-fan/ar-BBNg9ZC

(16,076 posts)Since when does someone protesting against you, offer their hand in a friendly manner? And it took security more then a "split second" to intervene!!!
Maybe the judge thought Mr. Guttenberg was there to collect on his gambling debts!!!

(2,690 posts)He is one now, has always been one, and when he sits on the Supreme Court as the worst new member since Silent Clarence he will continue to be one. He is -- as has been shown by the hearings -- a purely political animal who will enter his new job with pre-conceived ideas about how certain decisions ought to be made. He will vote an unprecedented percentage of the time with whatever extreme right wing position is being pleaded before him.
A hack's hack whose heart belongs to the Heritage Foundation, the Freedom Caucus, and the extremest, most intolerant elements of the Catholic Church. Between him and Gorsuch, the corporations will fly freely in their efforts to gouge profits, devastate the environment, and remove the already fading veneer of protection afforded the common citizen by the Founders' Bill of Rights. Individual citizens may as well move to Canada. Individual citizens who are not publicly professed christians had better move to Canada. LGBTQ citizens should already be at the border.

(51,585 posts)when I call the senators and tell them to vote NO!
I am going to call King (I- Maine) to thank him for voting NO and call the Dems on the Judiciary Comm to thank them for holding his feet to the fire. I have been telling the staffers that
1. There should be NO SCOTUS nominees while the fake prez is being investigated.
2. He lied to the Senate in 2006 and there is proof, he should not even be a judge.
3. His answers to questions by the committee are too vague (especially on the issues of abortion and repealing the ACA) as well as whether or not he would vote to not allow Mueller's investigation to be completed and handed over to Congress.
The staffers have all been nice to me when I have been calling the 8 Dem and GOP senators who are "iffy" on voting for him. Please help fight for the future of our country and call along with me. RESISTANCE WORKS. Here is the contact info and it takes 5 min to call. You do not need to be a constituent since they rarely ask. If they do ask this is what I do...Google "Zillow homes for sale" in each senator's city and state. It takes two or three min and it works (I have been doing this over a hundred times in the past year). So have other DUers. A cell phone area code is no indication of a person's residence so don't worry about that. Here is co tact info for their local offices. The DC directory is (202) 224-3121. Go to this link. THANKS!

(2,347 posts)they are also against sterilization as well as all contraception. I can't find anything in the majority opinion or Kavanaugh's dissent that calls contraception "abortifactants", but reference is made that PFL believes life begins at conception. But they go well beyond that.
Kavanaugh is being disingenuous here.
