New leak shows Julian Assange sought Russian visa in 2010

Source: Associated Press

LONDON (AP) — Julian Assange had just pulled off one of the biggest scoops in journalistic history, splaying the innards of American diplomacy across the web. But technology firms were cutting ties to his website, WikiLeaks, cable news pundits were calling for his head and a Swedish sex crime case was threatening to put him behind bars.

Caught in a vise, the silver-haired Australian wrote to the Russian Consulate in London. “I, Julian Assange, hereby grant full authority to my friend, Israel Shamir, to both drop off and collect my passport, in order to get a visa,” said the letter, which was recently obtained by The Associated Press.

The Nov. 30, 2010 missive is part of a much larger trove of WikiLeaks emails, chat logs, financial records, secretly recorded footage and other documents leaked to The Associated Press.

The files provide both an intimate look at the radical transparency organization and an early hint of Assange’s budding relationship with Moscow.

Funny enough, in 2006, in the run-up to the foundation of Wikileaks, the founders of Wikileaks cited Russia as an example of oppressive regimes Wikileaks will fight.

WikiLeaks is developing an uncensorable version of WikiPedia for untraceable mass document leaking and discussion. Our primary targets are those highly oppressive regimes in China, Russia and central Eurasia, but we also expect to be of assistance to those in the west who wish to reveal unethical behavior in their own governments and corporations.

And Julian Assange wanted a Visa for a country that Wikileaks has branded as evil and that has directly threatened Wikileaks?

Another laughable establishment attempt to smear an organisation that dares to challenge 'official' narratives.

Fail.

As well as a decent number of his fellows.

The remains of which are nothing but Russian puppets at best but actual agents of the FSB at worst.

The timing seems close enough. By then he was ready to go full Putin-toadie.
