Sen. Kamala Harris says she believes Brett Kavanaugh accuser, says she has "nothing to gain"

Source: CBS News

By EMILY TILLETT CBS NEWS September 18, 2018, 7:48 AM

Sen. Kamala Harris, a top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee currently in the throes of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process, says she believes the woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct when the two were high school students in the 1980's. Harris told "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday that Christine Blasey Ford, the woman behind the allegations, has "nothing to gain" by stepping forward.

"I think it's going to be about, it comes down to credibility...and it's going to about listening to what each party has to say, but I believe her," said Harris.

Both Kavanaugh and Ford have since agreed to testify before Harris' committee on Monday in a public hearing, delaying this week's scheduled vote on Kavanugh's confirmation originally set for Thursday. Republicans on the committee agreed to hold the high-stakes hearing after some of its own members, mostly Democrats, decried the process moving forward without first giving Ford a public forum to share her story.

"Anybody who comes forward at this point to be prepared to testify in the United States Senate against someone who's being nominated to one of the most powerful positions in the United States government, that takes an extraordinary amount of courage," said Harris.

1. The easy response is the accuser is a Democrat and could have a political motive

Better to say you’re keeping an open mind at this point. That said, the Harris/Kavanaugh confrontation on Monday should be fun.

11. No personal motive. She will not gain anything personally from this... in fact quite the opposite.

A political motive, simply to help Democrats, seems hard to believe given what she is risking personally.

I think her motive is simply to do the right thing and stop a sexual predator from becoming a member of the Supreme Court.

Not if we put everything in $, of course. But if she was sexually assaulted and makes her victimizer pay, that's nothing? A sense of justice balanced, of restoration of dignity?

People will go out of their way to hurt somebody who hurt them, at sometimes large personal costs.

And it doesn't matter if their victimizer was actually their victimizer, as long as they *believe* that the person they're gunning for is the one who hurt them.

The victim will be blamed, and attacked. Kavanaugh will go on to be confirmed.

Would very much appreciate being proven wrong, but given the loads of history on this.. I doubt that I am.

How many women came out against Trump leading up to 2016? My faith in our fellow citizens and government is at an all time low. He's going to be a SCOTUS judge, people are going to suffer, and they are going to gloat about it when it's done.

Dr. Ford is a woman, and not having Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court is a definite gain for women. If he is seated, it's almost a guaranteed loss for women, and everyone not in the 1%.

13. to stop kavenaugh and trump think sandra fluke, not anita hill
Tue Sep 18, 2018, 10:56 AM
Sep 2018

limbaugh had a significant role attacking anita hill. there was no fox then. talk radio made the difference then as he has many times since then. talk radio put huge pressure on those senators

when he tried to do to sandra fluke what he did to anita hill a few activists using social media scared off a lot of limbaugh advertisers. now it’s a lot easier and possible to redo that effort x 100.

in the last year artificial intelligence made it a lot cheaper, easier, and faster to turn recordings of spoken word into searchable transcripts

here are a few things limbaugh said about christine blasey ford yesterday — he’ll ramp it up the rest of this week. he named flake and corker as cowards, is aiming trump's base at wavering GOP senators and red state dems:

x

deranged leftist professor

bad professor

dark, troubled

severe psychological problems
and he refers to the attack as

doing the nasty

there was a lot more for most of 3 hours

when ad agencies learn how easy it is to list advertisers for limbaugh and the other rw blowhards they will have to categorize it and give advertisers a choise and ask if they want to support trump or not. when that happens trump's best weapon will fall apart as a 20-1 monopoly

4 EASY STEPS

from republiconradio.org:

1) Record
Quicktime, on every Mac, is a basic app for recording audio streams. While playing the stream turn on Quicktime, go to 'File' and 'New Audio Recording'. Turn on the recorder and when you're done save it. With Quicktime it is necessary to have volume on. Other recording apps will allow recording multiple streams at the same time, pre scheduling, and editing.
2) Transcribe
At $5/hr and under, Sonix.ai may be the cheapest, quickest, and easiest transcription service. An hour takes minutes and is generally very accurate with good recordings. When it's done they send an email with a link to the transcription in their editing program where it can be downloaded or tweaked and corrected on their site. It can also be stored there. The monthly subscription is $15 but they offer a 30 minutes free trial.
3) Search for "DOT" to identify advertisers
Live recordings of radio streams include advertisements and most announce web sites transcribed as "so-and-so-company dot com". Most advertisers can be found by searching for the word "dot". Sometimes the ads provided phone numbers. The Sonix text editor allows you to highlight and add notes. Each company or quote can get a note that is listed and numbered. The notes can then be copied and pasted elsewhere.
4) Contact
Most websites provide phone numbers and email addresses specifically for contact by potential customers. Complaint emails may get further up the chain of command than a phone call, and there's a lasting written record for employees to pass around. It may also be easier for sympathetic staff to pass on a comment to a boss in email form than personally.
