Governor pardons two convicted murderers after they carry out odd jobs at his mansion

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Rhiannon12866 (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

A governor's decision to pardon two convicted murderers after they carried out odd jobs at his mansion has been slammed as 'completely unfair'.

Mississippi governor Haley Barbour, who leaves office this week, enraged families of the victims slayed by David Gatlin and Joseph Ozment in the 1990s.

The two men, who have served fewer than 20 years of their life sentences, were freed on Sunday, a Department of Corrections spokeswoman confirmed.

...

In four instances in 2008, he freed men - all who worked at his mansion - who shot their ex-girlfriends or wives dead.

Let's see if Barbour is the surprise Palin VP pick this year.

4. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to get good help these days???

I mean REALLY!!!!??!!

The guy that I hired to carry the ice cube tray from the sink to the freezer is so bad, I had to hire another guy just to clean up the 4 or 5 drops of water that always end up on the floor.

And don't even get me started on the gardener. She regularly clips the long stem roses a quarter inch too SHORT!!! I'd have her deported, except I fathered her child, and I don't want to take care of that brat myself. UGH!!

The guy who feeds and maintains my horses is a total ass ... but he's screwing my wife frequently enough that she can't spend all my money ... so that one is win-win I guess.

Anyway ... the POINT is that its hard to get good help ... and if some of the help made the mistake of murdering a few folks, that can be forgiven ... if they can redeem themselves through hard work.

Yea ... that's it.

18. It's a totally acceptable form

I even just Googled to make sure I haven't lost my mind.

I'm not snarking, I promise, just stating that "slayed" is just as legit as a past or past participle form of "slay" as the other forms several posters have stated.

15. It's proper form is "slew"

A review of US usage 2000-2009 in COCA suggests that "slayed" is increasing in popularity, but remains less common than "slew". It is very rare in UK usage (BNC).

25. Gee, I figured they wouldn't be black, because I have a sense about that governor that he's not all

that fair minded when it comes to matters of race. I am surprised that at least one of 'em didn't look like THIS guy, though:

I mean, really--odd jobs? The jokes write themselves. Where's Jimmy Bond when ya need him?

It also seems he's not all that fair minded when it comes to gender. Shooting your wife or girlfriend? Fine and dandy. Why doesn't he have any young ladies polishing the silverware or sweeping the front porch who killed their HUSBANDS or BOYFRIENDS, I wonder??

had so much to say when Clinton pardoned Marc Rich who owed the Gov. millions in taxes? Wasn't a good idea but far less than freeing several murders.
