Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) rejected professor Christine Blasey Fords request to hold off on hearings on her sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until the FBI can conduct an investigation into the claim.
In a statement released Tuesday, Grassley said that there is no reason for further delay since nothing the FBI or any other investigator does would have any bearing on what Dr. Ford tells the committee.
Through her attorney, Blasey Ford requested the FBI probe on Tuesday, citing the many partisan and personal attacks she had faced as rationale to have an unbiased third party suss out the facts of the case before she has to go before the committee and the world.

(6,546 posts)His handling of the committee hearings painted a glaring picture of just how badly Grassley is failing. He looked like a senile old fool. As a person near Grassley's age, I am allowed to say this without age bias.

(17,982 posts)Along with Orrin Hatch, both on the panel against Anita Hill. Hatch using the same words.
I had forgotten Simpson was on that Committee until I saw the cartoon.
The committee simply voted to turn it over to Congress because they were desdlocked 7 to 7.
Now Republicans are trying to blame Biden.

(8,200 posts)The Trump administration is not the cause, but the result of a political party that has put winning at any cost as their sole purpose to exist. They willingly engage in character assassination to achieve the goals. This is their method of operation that used by Nixon and perfected by Reagan, the Bush cabal and now Trump.

(2,647 posts)is power mad. He is typical of republicans in that they want control, but they haven't the slightest idea on how to govern.

(4,341 posts)the President has too much power. No one should have that much power, check and balances go out the door when one person holds so much power, and as we all understand, too much power in the wrong little hands is extremely dangerous.
I know I wrote the word "power" too many times in one paragraph...bad writing...but I thought it was needed.

(26,727 posts)The Senate certainly does... and "the Senate" speaks by having 51 votes available for whatever it is saying.
Or... in this case... the committee speaks by having 11 votes agreeing.
Grassley would be out on a very thin limb if a single Republican on the committee wasn't behind him on this. If Flake said "we can certainly wait another week or two" then he wouldn't "have this power".

(6,226 posts)Can you imagine having to sit next to the guy (kavanaugh) that you are supposed to testify against in a Senate hearing? It's all about ramming kavanaugh through. It's all about Roe v Wade. (If Roe goes down, abortion rights will return to the states.) Sadly, the repubs have the votes and those so called moderates are selling women out. Vote folks. If we don't at least win the House, we will not be able to stop trump.

NOTE TO WOMEN: Republicans don't mind if someone tries to rape you; they just mind if you don't carry his baby to term.

(22,035 posts)I like the suggestion of Ms. Blasey Ford's attorneys questioning Kavanaugh. Even if his would then be able to question her. At least get a decent argument out there.
