DELAND, Fla. (AP) A Florida man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he told a television station and sheriff's deputies that he was going to shoot down the sheriff's helicopter if it didn't stop flying over his house.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Saturday that 54-year-old Robert Moni is charged with making a false report of a bomb, arson or weapon of mass destruction.
Volusia County Sheriff's deputies said they received a call Thursday from a TV station employee who said that a man had claimed in a phone call that he would shoot down the sheriff's helicopter if it didn't stop flying overhead.
Investigators say Moni had made similar threats before and espoused conspiracy theories, saying the helicopters were spying on him.

(1,000 posts)but I do know what it's like to be in a mobile home at night when 4 MH-60s pass over slowly at between 60 and 100 feet. Much more than annoying.

(23,139 posts)They flew figure of 8s around Minneapolis 24/7 accomplishing nothing but driving everyone mad with the relentless droning. I can relate to the irritation but this guy sounds unhinged.

Was it actually a police helicopter or a fundy pastor voyeuring naked people in their back yards?

and every single person, plane, helicopter, dog, kid on a bike, etc... is involved in a vast conspiracy to annoy/harass him, aye?
or maybe they actually were watching him this time...

(6,241 posts)Had a customer last night with bad signal levels, and a box that kept disconnecting. She complained about missing channels. I was apologetic, said we'd take care of it. She said that her equipment was fine, but the problem was hackers. She didn't want a tech out, because she didn't want anyone on her property. Just wanted to make a report because she was tired of hackers.
I nearly lost my cool with her. Her stuff is never going to get fixed.

(1,204 posts)and he was telling me a story very similar to that a couple weeks ago. Not to mention all the other crazy and ridiculous calls he gets. I really do feel for you guys who put up with that stuff. I don't know how you all do it.

(6,241 posts)but for me, the paycheck is nice. And the company looks for reasons to promote you. I'm usually in the top 5% of my call center, and I get prizes for that. My worst day at that place is better than my best day at any other job I've ever done.

(4,820 posts)Once they said it must be the state police looking for pot. Seems they had targeted the conservation property next door and were flying at tree top level (70')....It rattled the windows and scared the shit outta me. I would have seen that they were police, but they never came directly overhead..and the trees blocked a good view.....REALLY LOW!

The other time, a neighbor who had already fought with the town about using his yard as a heliport and lost decided he could just have his pilot drop him off one morning at about 7 AM. I literally levitated outta my bed as it sounded like it was going hit the house and take the whole family out.
This shows you have to be careful about threats, but I say more power to him and move to stop these airborne intrusions. If I wanted to live next to an Airport, I'd just move there.
