Women Walk Out Across The Country In Support Of Kavanaugh Accusers

At 1 p.m. on Monday, supporters of the women who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault walked out of their homes and workplaces.
The national walkout was promoted partially in response to the backlash these and other women face when going public with stories of sexual assault and rape. The anti-sexual-harassment organization Times Up tweeted on Sunday that "WOMEN MUST BE HEARD" in a "MOMENT OF SOLIDARITY" with Kavanaugh's accusers, Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez.
It urged people to wear black and leave wherever they are in protest, using the hashtag #BelieveSurvivors on social media. In New York, people dressed in black began to gather in Washington Square Park as the walkout began at 1 p.m. The crowd chanted "Believe survivors" and held signs that read, "#TimesUp Kavanaugh."
The demonstrations came on the heels of a blockbuster report by The New Yorker's Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow, detailing allegations that Kavanaugh exposed himself to Ramirez and thrust his penis in her face at a party when the two attended Yale in the early 1980s. Last week, Blasey came forward publicly with allegations that Kavanaugh forced himself on her in high school. "I thought he might inadvertently kill me," Blasey told The Washington Post...More...

(51,582 posts)of this! A 19 year old didn't know there is a vote in Nov, who Kavanaugh is, why we are doing this, etc. I heard the same at Trader Joe's last night with a 20 something woman. Do young people ever look at the news? When I was 18 I was right there (see above photo at the arch in Washington Sq in NYC) going to art school and everyone I knew in art school voted! We all cheered when Reagun was shot in the dorm on Union Sq. That was 1980. What has happened since then? I protested back then, and still do, even though I chose not to have kids. I am doing this for my country. I am doing this for future generations.

(41,113 posts)How can people be this unaware, jeeze! When Reagan was shot in DC in 1981 it was a huge deal nationally. I was in DC and had been to conferences at that Hilton on Conn. Ave. several times.
What's happened since then is a huge issue, esp. for the young. It's Their Future, as you say!..

They are not paying attention to NBC, ABC, or CBS, let alone CNN or MSNBC or even Faux Snooze.
I remember when Lennon was shot and killed and Sadat was shot and killed and Raygun was shot (which caused Alexander Haig to rear up and try to take charge). I had a 13" portable black & white TV in my dorm room at the time and after seeing those news events on that, I ran down to the dorm lounge to watch on the 19" color TV with the illegal cable hookup (that ran out the lounge window, across a grassy area to the street, and up to a tap for a cable line on a pole that went to someone's house ).
I remember watching Max Robinson on ABC when gold crossed the $800/oz price point and people were standing in lines at gold/silver shops turning in their sterling silver place settings (many discovering their stuff was silverplate) and gold necklaces for cash.
The current generation has literally had what was once a quiet, secluded "library", full of information, put front and center, completely engulfing them in electronic "everything" - entertainment, news, sports, restaurants, history, leisure, cooking, art, catalogs, music, virtual travel, retailers, etc. Many have chosen to filter out "news" unless it comes across some feed.

(51,582 posts)If the same thing were to happen to the moron, I expect the same reaction from my entire family, friends, neighbors and from strangers I have spoken with at rallies over the past two years. I am not alone by a long shot (no pun intended).

Hopefully, even TV will have to mention this event, between commercials and trumputin stunts and before the cutesy closing stories.
