Republicans Eye Kelly Ayotte to Question Kavanaugh Accuser

The former New Hampshire senator would be a natural fit to take the outside counsel gig. Is she crazy enough to do it?

Mindful of the optics of an all-male panel grilling an alleged sexual-assault victim, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have begun narrowing their search for an outside counsel to question Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaughs accuser this week.
One name in particular appears to be garnering support among committee Republicans: their onetime colleague, former Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).
Two Republican Senate sources confirmed to The Daily Beast that Ayotte is being considered as a potential candidate to question Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high-school house party in the early 1980s. Ford is slated to recount her allegations on Thursday, pending negotiations with committee leadership on the particulars of her testimony.
A top Democratic Senate source also relayed hearing that Ayottes name was under consideration, though a GOP aide on the judiciary committee cautioned that the ex-senator had not been on their list as of last week. That aide said the list may have changed, that no decision had been made yet, and that numerous other women were also under consideration.

(23,946 posts)to test into Dr. Ford last week but now that her allegations are credible...they are afraid of the optics.
Hope the good doctor sticks to her position of no on that, let the Republican Senate leader keep his promise to "plow right through this" on their own, cowards.

(115,661 posts)They've got Feinstein, Durbin, Leahy, Whitehouse, Klobuchar, Coons, Blumenthal, Hirono, Booker and Harris. All but Feinstein are attorneys. Leahy, Whitehouse, Klobuchar and Harris have worked as prosecutors. They have way more horsepower for this sort of thing than Avenatti.

(637 posts)IMHO. Dr. Ford should give a detailed opening statement and then answer only questions put forth directly by senators.
She should refuse to allow Republican senators hide behind a woman.
