McConnell: I Believe We Have The Votes To Confirm Kavanaugh

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Caitlin MacNeal and Tierney Sneed
September 25, 2018 2:49 pm
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) indicated Tuesday that the GOP was full steam ahead in putting on the Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who faces allegations for sexual misconduct.

“I believe he’ll be confirmed, yes,” McConnell said at a press conference at the Capitol, when asked if he had the votes.

Earlier in the press availability, McConnell said he was “confident we’re going to win.”

But first, Kavanaugh will sit through another hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee Thursday, where one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, will also testify about her account that the judge groped her when they were both teenagers.

Asked if his language made it seem like he would not approach Blasey Ford’s testimony seriously, McConnell noted that few people were willing to testify under oath about the matter.

One of those senators, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) told he reporters he had cleared his schedule Thursday to watch the hearing, but that he was going into it with “positive feelings” towards Kavanaugh. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) — who had supported the move to bring Blasey Ford in front of the committee — praised Kavanaugh’s appearance on Fox News to defend himself Monday evening.

The Republican senator who is perhaps giving the strongest signals that she’s still on the fence on Kavanaugh is Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).

“We need to be able to listen,” Murkowksi told the New York Times Monday about Thursday’s hearing. “We have to listen to what she will say on the record, under oath, and what Judge Kavanaugh will say on the record, under oath.”

Hey, Murkowski, Corker and Collins, Flake, while your in your office(s) looking at the TV, and trying to make up your minds, and scratching your heads of bullshit that is running between your ears, why don't you demand a FBI investigation from your caucus.
This happy horseshit of what you are saying, is nothing more than happy horseshit......................your double speak belies your hypocrisy on the rule of law and for this job interview, that this asshole has perjured himself, and has now been accused of sexual assault...................................the question that needs to be asked if you were a boss and found out that this person lied, would you still hire him...............................I fucking don't think so....................

The confirmation hearing needs to be used to put into the public record once again how Kavanaugh has been proven to have lied under oath at previous confirmation hearings and Kavanaugh should be made to answer to that and he should be made to admit to having done so or squirm on camera during the hearing being asked directly about how there is evidence that shows that he lied.

It seems that some felt that his lying under oath and the documentation that shows that was forced to take a back seat to these sexually charged allegations.

I feel like the GOP doesn't care about the truth they need to be show that is the case they are ready to confirm him without even considering that there is the matter of the public deserving to know the truth and that they should be willing to delay the vote until the truth is uncovered.

Clearly, Kavanaugh, McConnell and the GOP have no regards for the truth, in this Trump era of post truth politics

that has lied to the committee, and now I am accusing this same man for attempted raped......................where are your principles, why haven't you made a request to the FBI to investigate this charge and those charges, and why do the 11 republican men in this committee not ask me the questions, instead of some gun for hire...........................do you respect me as human being? They thought they could obscure enough of this to do some PR CYA, and made a bet that a short delay would allow for that.

Now that its becoming clear that things are not working out that way, they see no need for further superficial delays.

They would have suffered no lasting harm confirming him last week, despite the allegation made by Prof. Blasey Ford and especially when she was anonymous. McConnell is craven, but (despite all outward appearances) he's not stupid. He didn't have the votes then, and he certainly doesn't have the votes now.

IMHO, of course.

If I were writing the script for this, I'd have McCain come back in a flash of light and thumbs-down his ass again for good measure. With a middle finger from his other hand.

The McCain vote on the healthcare thing happened because McCain had not been around to quiz about it, and McConnell incorrectly thought that McCain "leaning" toward a yes meant yes. It didn't, though.

But McConnell probably has enough yes votes, with Pence's included, pledged so that he knows.

The Republicans don't need the hearing to decide because even if Kavanaugh did those things, it doesn't matter to them. Just like with Clarence Thomas. Some things never change.
