First Republican calls for FBI to investigate Kavanaugh

Rep. Walter Jones (N.C.) became the first Republican lawmaker in Congress to call for an FBI investigation into allegations by three women that President Trumps Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, sexually assaulted or harassed them decades ago.
I think there should be an investigation by the FBI. I really do, Jones told The Hill in a brief interview in the Capitol. What in the world difference would 10 days make? Why not wait 10 days, why not wait two weeks to find out the truth?
Such an investigation could exonerate and help Kavanaugh, argued Jones, who has sometimes clashed with Trump.
Asked if he thought the three women accusing Kavauagh were credible, Jones replied: I dont know enough information to say that. But they should be given the benefit of the doubt.
Jones is not a senator and will have no role in the confirmation of Kavanaugh, but his comments are notable as many Republicans in the Senate close ranks around Kavanaugh.

(3,276 posts)maverick for a good while now. He was one of the idiots who came up with "Freedom Fries" in the House cafeteria during the reign of Bush the Lesser, but later apologized, and came out against the Iraq war.
So that's one....

I couldn't watch the whole news conference. His voice is too grating to take, for more than a few minutes.

(10,053 posts)His republican comrades do not agree, they want this done and K in place by the first week in October - upcoming Supreme Court case that could expand Trumps pardon power. It's about the dual sovereignty doctrine, which allows for fed and state prosecution of the same crime, they think should be put to rest. (Gamble v United States)

What does it say that no GOP Senator has moved toward a position of common sense on this nomination? None stating the obvious that this guy is a bad choice who should not be a judge let alone on the highest court?
Maybe they're all on the take?

(37,748 posts)It's engraved in my mind as it's The Point when I realized the GOP is a band of idiots.
In 2003, Bobby directed the three House cafeterias to change all references to French fries and French toast on menus, and replace them with Freedom fries and Freedom toast.
This was a response to France's refusal to engage in military operations alongside the US in the gulf.
In reponse, one of the funniest lines ever from SNL arose: Tina Fey on the Weekend Update reported "In a related story, in France, American cheese is now referred to as 'idiot cheese"

(51,563 posts)and I brought Michael Moore's book "Fahrenheit 9/11" with me so the French people wouldn't think I was a Bush loving, French Fries hating American. They were really cool and wise. They told me that they weren't hateful of Americans despite Bush. They also said that presidents come and presidents go and he won't be around forever. I guess when they live in a country that has been around for thousands of years they get tend to be pretty sage with their perspectives.
