WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday kicks off a week of rallies in five friendly places around the country, seeking to shore up support ahead of congressional elections even as the fate of his pick to fill a Supreme Court vacancy remains unclear.
Republicans are at risk of losing control of Congress in the Nov. 6 elections, which could impede Trumps goals to clamp down on immigration, cut taxes, approve new bilateral trade deals, and invest in infrastructure. Allegations of sexual misconduct against Trumps Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, have complicated his confirmation proceedings, disappointing conservative voters and energizing Democrats. Kavanaugh denies the accusations.
Trump travels first to Wheeling, West Virginia on Saturday, where Republicans are trying to unseat Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, one of a handful of senators seen as key swing votes that will determine Kavanaughs appointment.
Trump will then hold evening rallies in Johnson City, Tennessee on Monday; Southaven, Mississippi on Tuesday; Rochester, Minnesota on Thursday; and Topeka, Kansas next Saturday.

(31,981 posts)But most of the expenses are paid by taxpayers. Since campaign finance laws changed in the mid-70s every president since then has used accounting tricks to have the taxpayers pay for most of the expenses.
A president will schedule some minor non political event in the area he wants to campaign in (such as visiting a school) and that legally justifies the cost of flying him out there and related costs. Then the cost of getting him to the campaign site and back to Air Force 1 is picked up by the campaign. Both parties have done this and it is an accepted practice which is why you don't hear complaints about it.

Of course he just wants to feed more and more red meat to his red meat eaters...that he has five frenzied feeding days is...fear.

Hopefully by t-day we will have something to shut up every family's drunk trumpists....... Or at least have something to enrage them. I love me when a good witch hunt actually catches some......

(46,080 posts)For Trump, this is a calculated risk to rally for Manchin's republican adversary.
Campaigning against Manchin can be seen two ways: A) Energize Trump's base to come out and dislodge Manchin as their senator, or B) to threaten Manchin into voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the USSC.
And if the latter, will Manchin vote to confirm, knowing that he could STILL lose his seat or will Manchin energize HIS base by voting against Kavanaugh?
The USSC vote may well come before the Midterms. Manchin will be crunching numbers this week-end.

Anyway, trump doesn't think that hard. To him, every time he opens his mouth or tweets something it helps. He would go everywhere if he could. He is raising a lot of money he considers his own.
The real calculus is being done by the gop candidates. They have to decide if trump will help more than he will hurt. Then they have to find a way to keep him away.
So far, trump has hurt candidates he thinks he is helping. He kills everything he touches. Once candidates realize it, they will start signalling for him to stay away. Many won't appear with him already. He just shows up anyway.

He drew about 8,000 people when he was in Duluth. Many of those were from Wisconsin and North Dakota. I know that North Dakota sent busses. On the other side of this, we had plenty of protesters there, too.

I hold no such hope for his rally goers, there's no doubt they'll be tired of him rambling and promoting himself long before he tires of it himself. And they'll secretly swear to not go back for the hours long ordeal the next time the orange clown's circus comes to town.

(5,914 posts)Republicans are getting tired of him and his ceaseless drama. Even my brother's idiot teabagger mother-in-law has completely ceased talking about him.
Trump fatigue is real, is palpable, and has firmly hit the nation, a month before the midterms and two years before the next general election.
So keep it up, fathead. Get your ugly orange mug out there as much as you possibly can.
