A lawyer for a friend of Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee that she does not refute Ford's allegation against Kavanaugh and will cooperate with the FBI in its investigation of the alleged assault.
Leland Ingham Keyser said through her lawyer, Howard Walsh, that she believes Ford's account, but she does not remember the alleged incident between Ford and Kavanaugh.
"Ms. Keyser does not refute Dr. Ford's account, and she has already told the press that she believes Dr. Ford's account," Walsh wrote in the letter to the committee, according to CNN.
"However, the simple and unchangeable truth is that she is unable to corroborate it because she has no recollection of the incident in question," Walsh continued, adding that Keyser will "cooperate fully" with the FBI investigation into Ford's allegation.

The friend can only tell what she knows or does not know.

(31,105 posts)to remember a RANDOM party where nothing interesting happened to her, but exactly why Ford would remember, she was ALMOST KILLED.

(1,115 posts)Sounds like a good out to me.
A truthful witness will testify. The issue isn't whether a particular party was remembered.
How many parties do you remember from 30 years ago by exact date?
----------If you can, then you're likely lying.
Now how about the people you might have partied with?
--That's a question that can be answered.
Don't subscribe to the GOP narrative and foreclose on seeing reality.

(1,115 posts)Yes, I get that.
My point is maybe the witness wants to stay home and relax.
I suspect the FBI has already contacted her and she may be persuaded
to testify. You do not mess with the FBI.

(1,058 posts)Damn, well can she at least corroborate that there was a party where Kav and Dr. Ford were at at the same time?

(5,585 posts)She's attested that she's never met Brett Kavanaugh.
From her statement: "However, as my client has already made clear, she does not know Judge Kavanaugh and has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford"

(23,946 posts)two books. And the general pattern of Kav partying, drinking to excess constantly, and molesting as character corroboration.
This is still a trial of character AND a criminal trial investigation. It can be both!
And then there is Ramirez who alledged a sexual assault, witness to other sexual assaults, and can corroborate the MO of Kav.

(54,770 posts)Dont think the FBI is going to find photographs or evidence of a rape this long afterwards. But, whether or not the party occurred, is a big part of measuring the truth, as is evidence of drunkenness and disrespect for women.

(7,768 posts)When I was in my early twenties and in college, I DO remember one party I was at with my boyfriend of four years. When my boyfriend left the room to use the bathroom, one of his BEST FRIENDS (that he grew up with) asked me if he could see me alone to tell me something. When we walked out to the back porch, he put his arms around me and tried to kiss me. I was beyond shocked! I never regarded him in the same light again. I never told my boyfriend or anyone else about it. I will ALWAYS remember that incident.
Ms. Keyser may not remember this party because nothing out of the ordinary happened to her. She was not assaulted.
Her good friend Christine's boyfriend did not attempt to kiss her. She would most likely remember that, just as I still do.

(9,997 posts)I think this is actually a positive. She does not remember the exact event because it was not significant in her life. However, perhaps she remembers conversations between herself and her friends, including Christine, in subsequent years that could shed light on the event in question. Friends and former classmates often talk about past events and people when they reminisce periodically throughout the years. Can you believe what happened to so-and-so? Do you remember the time when he/she did whatever?

(56,974 posts)if this makes anyone feel guilt over the way they've sexually mistreated another person, good.
This behavior was never acceptable, not even 40 years ago. The laws were on the books and were being enforced then. He's only being called to account.

(2,187 posts)I'm also wondering if she didn't remark on Christine's sudden absence to the other people present? And what about talking to her later? Even though we know Christine didn't tell her what happened, Leland should've picked up that something was off. It'll be interesting to see what she has to say. If she really didn't notice that her friend left quickly and that she would've been acting differently afterwards, then I wouldn't term them as "friends", but just "casual acquaintances " instead. We women pick up on that shit with one another.
