After newsworthy Friday, Sen. Flake makes appearance at Global Citizen Festival
Sep.29.201802:24
Sen. Jeff Flake was hailed as a hero Saturday by Judiciary Committee colleague Sen. Chris Coons at the Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park.
Flake took the stage at the festival, an MSNBC-televised music event that highlights education, poverty and preventable diseases, and spoke in praise of young people who are active participants in politics.
"So feel free to join me in an elevator any time," he said.
He was referring to an encounter in an elevator Friday with a sexual assault survivor who berated him for his decision to recommend Brett Kavanaugh to the full Senate for confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Flake finally found his spine and got the ball rolling. He deserves credit.

(2,710 posts)and vilification would be directed at him by members of his own party. They're a vindictive lot, so I do give him credit for courage. He restored hope to many when we thought all was lost.

(33,475 posts)...compelling testimony of the victim.
I find nothing heroic about that. That he hedged a tiny bit on having completely ignored the victim's testimony to do this is, in fact, cowardice in the face of confrontation on his act, since it clearly went against his first instinct, which was to ignore the victim.
He's a coward.

(44,984 posts)Knowing what Kavanah did in school to women, knowing he lied under oath in his 2007 confirmation and all the lies he told in this last shit show, how unfit he is to serve on the SC Flake will vote to confirm him.

Fuck that guy, now and forever. Hero, my ass.

(22,011 posts)I called his office Fri. to thank him. He at least gave us a fighting chance on this particular issue. It will make it harder for him to vote to confirm now.

(6,163 posts)If Trump and or the GOP F with the investigation and they all vote NO at the floor vote Kavanaugh is done. Gone. Waiting to be impeached from the court he now sits on for lying to Congress.
Retrograde
(10,130 posts)Actually, IMHO, less than the bare minimum when it comes to questioning and evaluating Kavanaugh. He caved in the end and accepted a so-called compromise rather than take a stand. And I believe he made that compromised because he was caught on camera trying to ignore a group of women.
No, he's not a hero yet.
