Trump suggests 'rogue killers' may be responsible for Khashoggi's disappearance

Source: Politico

President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that "rogue killers" may be responsible for the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, while also dispatching Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with Saudi Arabia's King Salman.

"We are going to leave nothing uncovered," Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House. "With that being said, the king firmly denied any knowledge of it. ... I don't want to get into his mind but it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers, who knows? We'll try getting to the bottom of it very soon. His was a flat denial."

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who had been living in exile in the United States, was last seen in Istanbul on Oct. 2 entering the Saudi consulate to obtain an official document for his upcoming wedding. Khashoggi has been critical of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other members of the royal family.

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement that Pompeo will travel to Riyadh on Monday. "The President has called for a prompt and open investigation into the disappearance of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi," she said in the statement.

when he makes these outlandish claims. Whoever is talking to him should ask, "why should anyone believe you are telling the truth?" Confront him with the fact he is a compulsive liar. That would take him off his pretend presidential pedestal on the spot.

Sure, he talked tough - severe punishment if the Saudis killed him.

Of course he would find that the Saudis didn't kill him.

Of course the FBI didn't find evidence of Kavanaugh's sexual assaults.

When you don't look, you don't find.

Pro-government Turkish newspaper Sabah said it had identified a 15-member team of suspected Saudi agents who flew into and out of Istanbul on the day of the disappearance.

One of the men, Maher Mutreb, served as a colonel in Saudi intelligence and was based at the country's embassy in London, the BBC understands.
...
One of the vans is reported to have taken some of the men from the consulate to the nearby residence of the Saudi consul about two hours after Mr Khashoggi's arrival.
...
Turkish employees at the consul's residence were also "hastily" told to leave on the day Mr Khashoggi disappeared, according to Sabah.

If that many had "gone rogue" with that level of support at the consulate and from the consul himself, then the Saudi family would be worrying about a coup.

could be that hacker Trump suggested hacked the DNC.

Trump is like the suspects in the Detective Columbo series episodes who thinks he is smarter than everyone and is getting away with murder.

Columbo always asks if they know how someone might have committed the crime; the suspects always fall take the bait and make some suggestions......and eventually Columbo uses their suggestions to reel them in.

I think we are going to reel in this suspect.
