Trump threatens military action if Mexico doesn't stop immigration 'onslaught'
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Thursday warned that he may take military action to stop immigrants from crossing the southern border into the U.S. if Mexico does not take action to stop the "onslaught."
"I am watching the Democrat Party led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S.....," he said in an initial tweet.
In addition to stopping all payments to these countries, which seem to have almost no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER! he said in a follow-up post.
Hopefully Mexico will stop this onslaught at their Northern Border. All Democrats fault for weak laws!

(8,200 posts)We just have to admit that we are doing a piss poor job educating a large percentage of our citizens. The situation is that 30% of our citizens are rabid racists, bible beating hypocrites, second amendment extremists who will only be converted to silence by their passing. When the young people decide that their future looks mighty dim the might, just might, get informed and off their lazy asses to the poles.
As for me, I have one foot in grave and the other on a slippery slope. It really doesn't affect me. I was fortunate to have been born in the era when the FDR Democrats created the Middle Class. You know, that society when the working class were paid decent wages, could afford a home and raise a family on one pay check. That society when our fathers returned from war and were provided with a chances that they never thought possible. A opportunity to open a business with government assistance or the dream of a college education that was the jealous reserve of the privileged money class.
The apathy mob will wake up when they find that Medicare is only covering 10% instead of 80% and supplementary insurance to help cover the 20% can not be found. The same with their Social Security. They will get their pittance that won't even buy a day's groceries after the retirement age is raised to eighty.

(1,483 posts)At the beginning of the trip I was joking with a woman who asked me if I was visiting family in San Diego and I said "no, Tijuana" and we laughed and said, "Same thing!"
Some woman who overheard started hitting me and telling me to "NEVER say that San Diego and Mexico were the SAME THING." I lived in San Francisco and I was like, "Are you okay lady? Sorry I struck a nerve."
After 9/11 the border was closed.
Tens of thousands of people were waiting at the border to go back to work on the US side.
On the US Side when I could finally cross back it was so creepy. A ghost town. Big businesses were shut down until people could come back to work and spend money.
I wondered if the angry woman at the airport owned a business and how that was going for her.
Nothing was bought, nothing was sold. No one was THERE. It was ruinous to the economy.
We simply can't afford to do without our neighbors.

Civics should impress people with the need to actually practice the right of all people to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness unimpeded by people who think that those guarantees are only for select groups. I agree that the extreme right wing radio broadcast and FOX have been extremely destructive. The fairness doctrine should be reinstated along with limitations of radio station ownership.

(338 posts)... most of them have suddenly stopped talking politics, at least in my collegial presence, because they seem to me embarrassed to be Republicans. And so do many of the candidates. For instance, they're putting out the usual campaign lawn signs, but those signs suggest more embarrassment. The Republican candidates not only avoid mentioning their party affiliation but also have mostly dumped the traditional GOP red backgrounds and now employ blue, Democratic-looking signs. Stealth Republicans, they are.
Meanwhile, a billboard featured on the web shows five or six state Republican candidates with one shared headline: Vote For Progress; as in progressive, which they aren't. Meanwhile wingnuts like Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who has worked tirelessly to kill "Obamacare," is now -- thanks to starkly negative polling -- reduced to insisting that he will protect coverage for prior conditions, which is totally inconsistent with what he has been doing or is likely to do if he wins another term.
In short, these bozos know they, their party and their policies are increasingly disliked by more and more voters. They're in panic mode, with which if you're GOP you'd by now have to be comfortable. Their attack ads are screechier and more unbelievable than ever. And that's a good sign. Because opponents who are fearful are ultimately vulnerable and easier to dispatch, as per the recommendations in "The Art of War."
So, let's keep up the pressure, scaring Repubs with our common sense approach, upbeat attitude, sane policies, and of course our huge armies of door-to-door campaigners, letter-writers and phone bankers.

(160,516 posts)The idea that the US should control the governments of other populations is simply undemocratic, and wrong.
The fact the fascist element in this country has brain-washed so many U.S. Americans into believing it is a simple crime.
A little time spent looking for the information left out of US history in US American classrooms will keep anyone busy for a very, very long time. Once the truth is discovered, a person finds it impossible to see things as he/she did as a child. The truth has carefully been deleted regarding US relations toward the hordes of people comprising the Americas and it's essential to discover it to see things in perspective.
So glad to see your post. The right wing fights the truth about US history like the devil.

I know, it's just a sick joke, it will never happen, but neither will a draft of his kids.
But remember also, when we did have a draft, rich kids either got deferments or easy peasy postings, like say to the tx air national guard. They didn't see any action unless it was their choice. And to be sure, some did chose that path. While others took the easy way through.

(6,241 posts)because of laws. So they'd probably threaten to invade mexico and create some kind of buffer zone. Mexico would be forced to deal with the migrants and turn them around, or accept US troops.
If Trump really wanted to get their attention he'd threaten to freeze remittances from the US to Mexico. Millions of dollars a day heading south.

(14,708 posts)Is wat you are thinking of I think. It prevents the military from participating in civilian law enforcement.
It says nothing about repelling a foreign invasion on us soil.
It's purpose is to prevent the gov't from deploying the military to oppress the population.
It was enacted after the civil war to prevent the military from occupying the southern states.
So it would depend on how the use is framed. Also, the law doesn't apply to the marines or navy (or coast guard or space farce).

These are very carefully scripted words that are just a step away form using the military against his political opposition. And the mouth breathers at his rallies would cheer for it.
is what I was thinking as well. He can scare the base and blame his political opposition all at the same time. It also strikes me as an escalation of his rhetoric. Now he claims the Democratic party are trying to lead an invasion that requires military intervention. That's a few steps away from arrests for party affiliation or just because they suspect something. I actually find this chilling, especially right before midterms that could potentially erode his power base.

(24,695 posts)Uses
This medication is used to treat certain mental/mood disorders (such as schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, manic phase of bipolar disorder, severe behavioral problems in children). Chlorpromazine helps you to think more clearly, feel less nervous, and take part in everyday life. It can reduce aggressive behavior and the desire to hurt yourself/others. It may also help to decrease hallucinations (hearing/seeing things that are not there). Chlorpromazine is a psychiatric medication that belongs to the class of drugs called phenothiazine antipsychotics. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.
Chlorpromazine is also used to control nausea/vomiting, relieve prolonged hiccups, relieve restlessness/anxiety before surgery, and help treat tetanus.
How to use Thorazine Tablet
Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 2-4 times daily or as directed by your doctor.
Dosage is based on your medical condition, age, and response to treatment. In children, the dosage is also based on weight. To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.
Although you may notice some medication effects soon after starting, for some conditions, it may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug.
Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Also, you may experience symptoms such as upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and shakiness. To prevent these symptoms while you are stopping treatment with this drug, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Report any new or worsening symptoms right away.

TECUN UNAM, Guatemala Its just a fifteen-minute walk across the bridge separating Guatemala and Mexico. Now, this concrete stretch has become the scene of an unfolding humanitarian crisis as around 1,500 mostly Honduran migrants many of them children are sleeping here amid heaps of garbage with no bathrooms and no water except for what volunteers bring by in small plastic bags.
At the moment, this is the end of the line for nearly half of the estimated 4,000 migrants mostly from Honduras, part of a caravan headed ultimately for the U.S. border. Mexican federal police fired tear gas Friday to prevent an onslaught of migrants from storming the gates; now, the crowd has settled down and appear ready to wait here as long as it takes to get across the border.
The municipality is collapsing because of the quantity of people here, Gustavo Adolfo Arana Jui with Guatemalas natural disaster commission, known as Conred, said in a press conference Saturday in Tecun Uman, where the migrants have converged.
In an effort to alleviate the crisis, the Guatemalan government is sending buses to Tecun Uman to offer free transport for Hondurans who want to return home. Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales said on Saturday around 2,000 members of the caravan have gone back to Honduras. Municipal officials in Tecun Unam pegged the number of returnees far lower at around 1,200.
