Tennessee set to execute murderer Edmund Zagorski in electric chair Thursday night

Source: NBC News

The state of Tennessee was set Thursday night to make good on a murderer’s grim request to be put to death in the electric chair rather than by lethal injection.

Edmund Zagorski, 63, is scheduled to be executed shortly after 7:10 p.m. ET at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

He’s requested a final meal of pickled pig knuckles and tails, according to prison officials.

While Tennessee normally puts inmates to death with lethal injection, Zagorski wants to die in the electric chair, claiming that 1,750 volts will be less painful than receiving a deadly cocktail of IV drugs.

... even though he promoted himself as an engineer". Oh great, a Holocaust denier who is an amateur engineer is responsible for the thing.

As a teenager, Leuchter helped his father move the state's old electric chair when the prison relocated, and he remembers they had to do it on a Sunday because the warden didn't want the news media to know.

"I helped put the chair in the truck. We covered it up with canvas," he said.

Years later, when it looked as though Massachusetts might restart capital punishment after a long hiatus, a prison steward who knew Leuchter's father asked Leuchter to come in and see whether the old chair was still usable.

From there, "my name was given to other states," Leuchter said.

That's his qualification. He helped transport one someone else built. And even he says "It worked the first time, but I think they were lucky".

"What I'm worried about now is Tennessee's got an electric chair that's going to hurt someone or cause problems....."

Oh, probably not. He's having pre-execution jitters.

Tenneessee officials reveal something about themselves by choosing Leuchter to manage their death machine.

Thank you for the helpful information.
