In the northwestern US state of Washington, a Republican state politician is facing backlash for distributing a document outlining the guidelines for a "holy army" and advocating killing people who violate "Biblical law".

With criticism mounting, some donors have asked state representative Matt Shea to return their campaign contributions.

Shea, who represents Spokane Valley in conservative eastern Washington, is seeking a sixth term in the state House and has been under fire since he acknowledged in a Facebook video last week that he had distributed a four-page document titled, "Biblical Basis for War" to some of his supporters.

The document condemns abortion and same-sex marriage and says how those who don't follow biblical law should be punished, The Spokesman-Review reported. At one point, the document says, "If they do not yield, kill all males."

It is a sad day when someone has to be afraid for their life because of a threat of violence. It makes it even worse when the threat of violence comes from an elected official who (is supposed to) hold the public trust. This is what happened in November, 2011. It was Republican State Representative Matt Shea, Spokane Valley, WA, 4th Legislative District, who pulled a loaded handgun on Leroy Norris of Spokane County. Here is a YouTube video that we produced about the incident involving Matt Shea. Spokane is safer without him.

Matt Shea, who has proven himself unstable in the past, was cited for two violations of state firearms law in the road rage incident. Norris was not cited for any offense.

The Spokane Police Department and courts determined that Leroy Norris was in fact speeding and perhaps driving overly aggressively in downtown Spokane. Norris admits as much. As stated in the police reports based on interviews with Norris, “Leroy said he was . . . speeding as he usually does.”

However, what Matt Shea did next made the situation 100 times worse. Republican Matt Shea decided to take the speeding infraction into his own hands. Shea drove up next to Norris and threatened him with his handgun that he pulled from his glove box. The police report contiues.

Matthew Shea, a far-right Republican member of the Washington state legislature, is under fire over the release of a document he wrote titled “Biblical Basis for War.” Among the “rules of war” it cites is, “If they do not yield—kill all males.”

Shea was also the topic of a recent unflattering Rolling Stone profile that documented his connections to extremist anti-government groups and called him “an extremist hiding in plain sight”—one who believes, for example, that the Oklahoma City bombing was an inside job. Noted Rolling Stone:

For several years, Shea has proposed the same initiative in the Statehouse: A place named “Liberty” — a 51st state that would sever the rural, arid and deep-red eastern half of Washington from the urban, forested, blue coastal region. A place where God and guns won’t be regulated. A place where Shea says, consequently, there will be more freedom.

Outraged to be facing high-profile criticism so close to the election, Shea has gone on the offensive, posting a video last week in which he charged that his critics are using a “Maoist insurgency model” and “political warfare” to discredit him and others like him “that love the Constitution, that love America, that love God and Jesus Christ, as somehow being racist hatemongers.” He said he expected “more of these attacks to ramp up as the counter-state realizes it’s beginning to lose this upcoming election.”

He’s literally taking his cue from the Book of Numbers where Moses — on God’s directive — ordered the massacre of all Midianite males, infants included. They then massacred all the women who were not virgins.
