GOP congressman left speechless after being grilled about health care during debate

Source: Salon

“I have nothing to add,” Rep. Troy Balderson offered when asked about his vote to repeal Medicaid expansion

November 2, 2018 9:21pm (UTC)

...........................................

In an hour of fiery back and forth, Balderson, a former state lawmaker who won short-term control of the 12th District seat in an August special election, and O'Connor, the Franklin County recorder in Columbus, argued about issues such as healthcare, the opioid crisis, taxes, jobs and Medicare. One of the most heated exchanges featured O'Connor probing Balderson about how he could claim not to be taking away his constituents' healthcare coverage when he opposes expanding Medicaid, which nearly three million of Ohioans rely on.

"I want health care for everybody. I want people to have access to healthcare," Balderson claimed during the debate, to which O'Connor asked, "Then why do you want to throw people off their healthcare?".................................................

Recent polls show O'Connor closing in on his Republican rival, who has received President Donald Trump's support. Earlier this week, Trump tweeted, "@Tory_Balderson is doing a great job as Congressman from Ohio. We need him in D.C. Vote for Troy - he has my total Endorsement!".......................................

The article does not give much hope for the Democrat winning. Some, but not much.

Replying to @plunderbund

He was flustered Danny kept his cool. It's just so crazy to see these Republicans now claiming that they are for protecting healthcare and pre-existing conditions when for 6 yrs they said the gov't should let the free market work.

I read a politifact on it. It was pretty nuanced. R's plans have included P.E.C protections but they have loopholes and are not as strong as ACA. I think D's would be more effective on natl level if they got into the details instead of "no you don't" "yes we do" back and forth

they'll definitely appoint a really wonky task force after the election

...get in their face, call their "falsehoods" lies, and make them defend their stance. They can't! And this proves it! Nice work Danny. Respect. I bet given another hour you could have had Balderson swearing he was FOR for ACA.

GOP candidates have been hammered across america as they all stoop to lying about their votes and the fact "offering" pre-existing coverage is not the same as "mandating pre-existing" coverage. No way, no how.

Liar is flashing wildly every time Balderson is questioned or debated. You can see it, you can hear it.

He is the epitome of a scared, greed driven, Conservative sociopath and yet this district (literally across the street from where I live) continues to cast votes for him.

While I see multitudes of O’Connor signs in yards and during the open voting this week, the O’Connor faithful were out in strong force, Balderson voters MUST be well outnumbered at the polls or this sweaty wretch might prevail.

There are still a lot of incredibly stubborn, profoundly stupid people willing to vote against their personal well-being.
