Bernie Sanders: Trump 'lies every day about every imaginable thing'

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says that Tuesday's midterm elections will be a referendum on whether Americans are comfortable with a president who he says is a "pathological liar."

In an interview with CNN, the Vermont senator issued familiar attacks aimed at President Trump's credibility, arguing that he lies about "every possible thing."

"What this election is really about is whether we feel comfortable, Anderson, about having a president who is a pathological liar," Sanders told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Monday night. "Who lies every day about every imaginable thing."

"And whether we as Americans are comfortable having a president who tries to divide us up, divide us up based on the color of our skin or the country we came from or our sexual orientation or our religion," Sanders added. "And ultimately, I don't think the American people want us to move in that direction."

Yes, indeed! I'm familiar with the sentiment and the tactic. It is with great regret that I must acknowledge that it's not just Trump who's guilty of it. This is something that's divisive and destructive. I've seen it frequently (well, occasionally) from some politicians that I'd ordinarily not expect it from. It's exceedingly disappointing, but since politicians continue to do it, I guess it must be effective to some extent. Still, it does reveal much to me about their motives, intents and character. And I have to be honest... what it reveals is NEVER flattering at all. (And that's all I have to say about that.)

This message should resonate beyond partisan affiliation, because Trump has set a new standard for lying. Everyone knows that politicians break promises, bend the truth,a and sometimes lie, but nothing like what Trump has one. He really is the misleader-in-chief. The trouble is that tribalism shields his followers and other GOP leaning citizens from understanding just how serious of a liar Trump is.
