Indicted GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter wins re-election after a bitter fight in California

Source: CNBC

Republican Rep. Duncan D. Hunter will win re-election to a sixth term in California’s 50th District, despite being indicted in August on charges of misusing campaign funds, NBC News projects.

The embattled incumbent was accused of “race-baiting” his challenger, Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, a Latino Arab-American.

Hunter was indicted along with his wife by a federal grand jury for allegedly misusing over $250,000 in campaign funds. He had been running neck and neck in polls with Campa-Najjar, who Hunter’s campaign claimed was a security risk due to his Palestinian grandfather’s connection to the 1972 Munich massacre of members of Israel’s Olympics team.

Nasty fellow. Hopefully he'll be ousted by the House when he's convicted. And yeah, he'll be convicted, it's an open and shut case. I doubt this dude will serve for one second. Just a joke that they elected him and Collins.

republican voters apparently don't care about their candidate's crimes, they just see that R and they vote for them.
What do you call folks like that?
I call them brain-washed and brain-dead stupid. But that's just MHO.

He was the old representative so he campaigned for him as if he was the one running. Same name, known figure, was just nasty all around. Also it was one of the meanest and ugliest campaigns in the country.

Can't wait until he'd behind bars. May have to write him a letter.

So when he is ousted or when he resigns, they'll have a special election to fill the vacancy: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displayText.xhtml?lawCode=ELEC&division=10.&title=&part=6.&chapter=1.&article=

Could try to run Ammar again but I'd suggest picking a different candidate.

What with this guy, Issa's past, Hunter, and Gianforte's conviction for assault, there's quite a few of them. Plus stains like Hassert in the recent past.

So there's still a chance we can flip the seat especially if the people who elected the criminal (soon to be behind bars) are embarrassed about their act and stay home.

Prosperity gospel types. Masochistic "Hate the Sin" types that just keep on sinning just so they can be forgiven again. Bircher-Biker types, along with a lot of Sovereign Citizens.

Morris Cerullo, the Le Hays, etc. have bases there. The first "Creation Science Natural History" museum was built there. Strip mall churches every other block, with four major, massive "Non-Denominational Christian" church/school/daycare compounds.
A dozen or so "Pregnancy Crisis Centers".

It's our own little Californtucky. I used to live there; I saw dozens of little sleepy Hispanic-majority ranching/orchard communities blossom into RW-Christian flight X-burbs over time.

The majority of those angry "self-sufficient" folks who spend their lives sucking off the government teat will vote for Satan just to spite a Liberal. I was hoping the influx of Chaldean, Somali, and Kurdish refugees that have been settling in the area since the mid-2000's might temper that Klannish temperament some, but they've seemed to have taken on the same suspicious tribal clique attitudes those earlier white immigrants did. Sadly, most of the refugees there tend only to be concerned with their immediate communities; most don't really feel the need to deal with State or National issues, they're willing to let the status quo run things on the higher level.

I expected Hunter to win. It might change eventually as the majority of the sheep realize that Jesus is not coming back and they're being scammed - but not any time soon.

That really sums them up.

Also not sure if anyone ever told you but your writing is very compelling and good! You've described the attitudes of so many conservatives.

But the House would almost certainly vote to oust him (takes a 2/3rd majority but I expect Republicans to cross the isle on that one).

He wouldn't be able to cast votes from jail. But he could write letters I guess.

Trump could also pardon him as well.
