Josh Hawley Defeats Claire McCaskill in Missouri Senate Race

Source: NY Times

By Nicholas Fandos

ST. LOUIS — Beating back a liberal suburban groundswell that proved lethal to many House Republicans, Josh Hawley claimed victory here on Tuesday over Senator Claire McCaskill, toppling one of Senate Democrats’ last remaining moderate voices, The Associated Press said.

The contest was one of the most expensive Senate races in the country’s history — tens of millions of dollars in ads blanketed the state’s airwaves — framing the stakes: With Mr. Hawley’s victory, Republicans completed a rapid takeover of a onetime swing state and padded their majority in the Senate.

“Tonight the people of Missouri have said that our way of life and our values are going to renew this country and that is what we are about, and that is what we are for,” Mr. Hawley said to a crowd of roaring supporters in Springfield, Mo., in the state’s conservative southwest.

Mr. Hawley, the state’s attorney general, will be 39 when he is sworn in, making him one of the Senate’s youngest members. His conservative intellectual stature, Republicans believe, has the potential to leave a lasting imprint on the Senate for years to come.

What's with the white socks thing w suits now? Tacky. Barefoot too. Put on a suit to look sharp...then dumb it down. Fashion, go figure.

Dude, the socks are considered an extension of the suit, and should match as closely as possible. And ditch the loafers, you hamhock. Didn't you master shoelaces? A good basic pair of Oxfords would have done the job admirably. Just because you're a cranky, conservative old white man doesn't mean you have to dress like one.

Those appear to be diabetic socks, which are non-restrictive, but close fitting sock which is designed to alleviate pressures on the foot or leg. Diabetes raises the blood sugar level, which can increase the risk of foot ulcers. Diabetic socks are made to be unrestrictive of circulation, but may be include venous compression for enhanced circulation.

Proper diabetic socks also help top manage moisture, a feature which can reduce the risk of infection. Another beneficial feature of diabetic socks is seamless toe-closures to avoid pressure, potential hot spots and blistering.

White is preferable for people with open wounds or sores, as this alerts wearers with compromised sensation to a draining wound.

In other words, stop being ugly. Getting old is tough.

If they don't like nasty, they can take the initiative to change.

Otherwise, they get what they give...

And voted with us as much as could be hoped for in MO.

A brief search reveals her husband has severe heart issues and diabetes, both of which cause circulatory problems.

And you mock his choice of what you-had-to-have known (given your supposed choice of profession) are diabetic socks (and comfy shoes).

I sure hope you don't get old. You won't like it.

And I hope your political beliefs don't get in the way of patient treatment. If they do, you should consider a new profession.

Take a lesson from the Jewish doctors and nurses who treated the Nazi shooter at the synagogue. All life is sacred.

and also, we had LOTS of luck in passing amendments on raising the minimum wage in MO as well as limits on lobbyists, and medical marijuana being allowed.

We will have to watch Hawley here in MO as I don't trust him one bit (we already have one other senator to watch, Roy Blunt). At least they are not like King in Iowa and his bigotry. I don't trust Hawley one bit in protecting our rights and freedoms. And, I don't trust him one bit on taxes/money or social security, medicare, etc. (protecting it, etc.). So the MO voters that voted him in are going to be bitterly disappointed before too long, I think.

Elected by Koch money (where do you think all of the money to run his campaign ads came from?), so eventually MO voters are going to be very disappointed in Hawley's legislative accomplishments before too long...he was pretty partisan in being the MO AG, and nitpicking the cases he chose to pursue/prosecute (make a splash basically, and not really 'do' anything, so fake).

While I hate to lose the seat, she lost because she decided to be a weak knee and call us who support her "crazy". Nope, when she did that I tossed her in the Manchin wastebucket.

Only interesting thing about him is that he would have been the first US Senator born in the 1980s had he been born a day later. He was born on December 31, 1979.

who will faithfully follow orders. Once again voters in MO voting against their common interest. Mostly elderly seniors so uninformed believed Hawley stood for pre existing ins coverage, or saving medicare or medicaid. Such a shame that another lying con man gets elected in MO. Dems need fresh blood.

against a pile of racist, vicious vipers in Missouri. She has been working furiously from the first, when she was a prosecutor in Kansas City, years ago, constantly in motion.

Wishing her the best, hoping she will keep the Governor's office in mind for the future.

Hawley will be very lucky if he doesn't go down soon for some issues the government has with him now, very serious problems.
