(CNN)Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison won his bid to be Minnesota's next attorney general despite facing accusations of abuse.
With 100% of precincts reporting, Ellison captured about 49% of the vote to best his Republican rival Doug Wardlow, who raked in 45% of the vote, according to Minnesota's Secretary of State's Office.
Ellison announced in June that he would withdraw his bid for re-election to Congress and instead campaign for Minnesota's attorney general.
In August, the son of Ellison's former girlfriend Karen Monahan detailed allegations of physical abuse by the congressman in a Facebook post, saying that he discovered a video on his mother's computer in 2017 that allegedly showed Ellison attempting to drag Monahan off a bed while cursing at her.
Ellison denied the allegation and claimed that a video of the incident "does not exist because I never behaved in this way."

(814 posts)And I did not see it. Getting in a fight with a mate, telling them to get out of the house. Grabbing a foot to get them off the bed and out of the house is not the abuse that would stop me voting for a Democrat. If anyone has anything on the man, I will listen. But, I really looked for something, and I did not find anything. I think he is lousy in relationships, but that doesn't stop me voting Democratic.

(14,154 posts)How does that even come close to convictable charges of 'abuse'? The false equivalency in the news, is STILL going on. The quote in that video..."Ellison denies some SEEEEEEEEEEERIOUS allegations against him". All it takes is for some Democrats falling for Republicans using the #metoo movement as a weapon including recruiting Democrats to help pile on. Because you can always count on some to do that. I'm glad he won and in so doing also won on defending his reputation on this ridiculous smear campaign.
I just wish Al Franken would also run....and win I would expect. If only to expose the sham against him as well, and end a career in the Senate on a positive note.

(6,519 posts)No one has seen it. There have been 2 investigations without any provable evidence. One conducted by the Democratic party and then, when they did not come up with anything, another by law enforcement. That investigation found nothing either. I voted for him because I refuse to lose two talented Democrats to the same scam.
