Judge refuses to stop ranked-choice count

Source: Portland Press-Herald

AUGUSTA – State election officials plan to run the ranked-choice voting tabulations at noon to decide the winner of Maine’s 2nd Congressional District race.

A federal judge rejected U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s request to force the Maine Secretary of State to stop the ranked-choice run-off on Thursday morning.

Less than an hour earlier, elections officials finished scanning all of the remaining ballots that were cast in the Nov. 6 election and announced plans to run the results through the ranked-choice software.

As a result, voters should know shortly afternoon who won the 2nd District race: Poliquin or Democratic challenger Jared Golden.
