BOSTON (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts cannabis users will have something extra to be thankful for next week as retail marijuana is set to begin sales on Tuesday.

In a news release sent to 22News, the Cannabis Control Commission is urging adults who enter the retail marijuana stores for the first time to know the law and consume responsibly.

The CCC has authorized Cultivate Holdings, LLC in Leicester and New England Treatment Access, LLC (NETA) in Northampton, to start selling marijuana and marijuana products on Tuesday.

“This signal to open retail marijuana establishments marks a major milestone for voters who approved legal, adult-use cannabis in our state,” Commission Chairman Steven J. Hoffman said. “To get here, licensees underwent thorough background checks, passed multiple inspections, and had their products tested, all to ensure public health and safety as this new industry gets up and running. As patrons look forward to visiting Massachusetts stores, we hope they will do their part by first familiarizing themselves with the law and understanding what is required of responsible consumers.”

I only wish it were closer to Maryland. With any luck DC will have an up & running regulated market. That’s another reason I’m happy with Dems taking the House. The only “downside” of that night was voters, yet again, re-elected one of the most anti cannabis Republicans to another 2 years. Andy Harris won in a landslide, again! I just don’t get it. Everyone I ever talk to about the guy can’t stand him, and yet he always gets re-elected, always by a landslide. Anyway, once again, congrats to you Mass. 😃

how high Mass residents get but rather if it will make any kind of dent into the crazy incarceration rate for minor drug offenses and wasted cost of public revenue prosecuting recreational drug users.

If it all just shifts to more lethal drug trade I will consider it a big mistake.

How long did it take for Massachusetts to get retail establishments licensed and up & running? Michigan passed recreational pot 11/7. We already have medical pot, but it's taken years for the state to get it up and running. It passed in 2008 and problems are still there for dispensaries. The recreational pot law goes into affect mid December, meaning you can have it and grow it. We won't be able to buy it at a dispensary until 2020! That sucks.

Lots of resistance from lots of communities. I was on planning board in my town when the medical pot bill passes. Immediately the Selectmen come forward with a zoning law they wanted us to put together and get passed which really restricted where such a dispensary would be located. The Law as clearly put together by some anti pot group, not written by the local selectmen. At the hearing there was a big showing by people who wanted pot and wanted pot now but the powers that be pushed the bylaw through, getting the votes as needed and 10 years later there is no dispensary in our town.

The state has put up all sorts of roadblocks to the effort state wide.

Now, suddenly, because there is a big show of interest from the moneyed investors, you are going to see this business take off.

Never take your eyes off the prize: FOLLOW THE MONEY! In America? Every time.

For medical pot the repubs were in charge. They dragged their feet regulations/licensing wise. This time we have Democrats (Michigan) in charge with Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel and Secretary of State elect Joslyn Benson.
All women! I have hope things will move faster.

the state fast tracked retail recreational sales

took less than 8 months from Election Day voter approval until dispensaries began selling recreational cannabis

Re-using the initials of the Civilian Conservation Corps is just wrong. It was quite a tool for infrastructure building during the depression. It helped a few members of my family, and many others.

My Father was in the CCCs from Southwest Detroit. He went with his buddies. He loved it and later (30s) bought lots 'UpNorth" which are still in the family.
