California wildfires: 'More than 1,000 missing' in Camp Fire
Source: BBC
More than 1,000 people have been reported missing in a California wildfire which has destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 71, local officials have said.
The death toll rose from 63 on Friday, eight days after the Camp Fire broke out in northern California.
However, the sharp increase in the missing list - from 631 to 1,011 in 24 hours - may not be accurate.
Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said it was possible it contained duplications.
"I want you to understand that this is a dynamic list," he told reporters.

(6,931 posts)He was trash talking fire fighters once again before he even left for California.I'd give that fat fuck a shovel and pick and tell him to show us just how to keep a hillside from going up in flames.

And he could also not add insult to injury by staying the fuck out of my beloved home state that is hurting enough already.
But of course he won't do that because he has to make everything about him. And with Mueller breathing down his neck, he desperately needs a distraction.
FUCK HIM and the horse's ass he married.

(11,841 posts)If this many are really missing at this stage, I'm worried that they are lost to this inferno.
It is really gonna be terrible to see how this ends up

(3,473 posts)Make a list of the reports in alphabetical order, maybe there are some people with the same name, but it shouldn't be that hard to get an estimate of duplications.

I hope they open more shelters. The norovirus thing is chilling. They have DMAT Shelters staffed w regular doctors and nurses who are acclimatized to disaster injuries and situations. Like Doctors Wo Borders, but, much more comprehensive and equipped. There's NO reason FEMA shouldn't be opening the floodgates for help.
The Red Cross and Salv Army are good at these things. The Southern Baptists are experts at mass cooking to supply the same. If you are in CA, NOW is a good time to donate blood and get trained (ONLINE MOSTLY) for disaster relief work. Your hands and mind and kindness are required. Volunteering should be part of all of our lives. No better time than now. Best regards BMPM.

(42,862 posts)I'd heard that some of the evacuation centers weren't actually "centers" at all... instead, they were spontaneous "pop-up" refugee camps (so to speak) in Walmart parking lots. No register, no name-taking, nothing... just homeless and displaced folks with nowhere to go, so they congregated together and helped each other as best they could.

(51,584 posts)trying to talk to every single person that is still alive and able to talk to get as many names recorded as possible, then they can spread the word to other survivors. They can start to get real lists and make order of duplicates, etc. People are so scattered all over the place....26,000 people lived there.

(1,279 posts)Couldn't they hire some indigenous people to teach them how to make controlled burns that do not get out of control. The government now calls them prescribed burns.

This isnt anyones fault just another sad result of climate change

(1,279 posts)If they managed the forests there would be less underbrush. That is why I said both parties.

(2,064 posts)Maybe the pads could be better, but the problem is the speed.
Also, this smells of bothsiderism. The underlying problem is Republicans systemically lying about climate change, not Democrats failing to "rake the forests" or whatever you think they should be doing.
