Seven in 10 Americans think President Trump should allow the Russia investigation to continue, and a slight majority think Congress should pass legislation to prevent Special Counsel Robert Mueller from being fired.
Most Republicans think the president should allow the investigation to continue, but don't support Congress passing legislation to protect Mueller from being fired.
Overall, 52 percent of Americans think Congress should pass legislation to protect the special counsel in charge of the Russia investigation from being fired, including three out of four Democrats and most independents. Sixty-seven percent of Republicans, however, disagree.
Fifty-one percent of Americans see the special counsel's Russia investigation as politically motivated rather than justified (46 percent), but seven in 10 think President Trump should allow the investigation to continue, including 57 percent of Republicans.

(26,060 posts)72% think investigation should continue including 57% of republicans. Hardly anyone that counts thinks it's a "witch hunt". They just don't think it needs legislation to protect Mueller. Entirely different story.

(14,164 posts)The tide will really turn. But not for all Republicans. Only for those still clinging to the belief that their RW radio and TV shows, and Trump himself are telling them, that its a 'witchhunt' and they have 'nothing'. Actual charges, will turn a few more. But it will also create an even more rabid segment of Republican voters that will coalesce and harden in their support for the Orange Turd. All the InfoWars subscribers etc..

(15,265 posts)I agree that if Mueller does bring substantial charges or Dem oversight hearings bring to light the massive grifting of Trump and his admin, Trump will be in about the same range of approval.

(8,749 posts)Granted 57% of Republicans want it to continue, but that also means 43% of Republicans want Republicans to stop investigating Republican crimes. FOURTY THREE FUCKING PERCENT!
