Congresswoman Fudge Statement on House Leadership

Congresswoman Fudge Statement on House Leadership

Warrensville Heights, Ohio – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) releases the following statement:

“Last week I announced that I was strongly considering a run for Speaker of the House.

"My consideration was due in large part to the lack of sustained efforts that ensure diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels of the House. Further, despite the great success we experienced on November 6, voter protection and voter integrity are still at risk. The erosion of voting rights and civil rights was on full display in Georgia, Florida, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas. Our party should reflect the diversity of our changing nation and guarantee all our citizens the unfettered right to vote and to have every vote count.

"Leader Pelosi has granted me the opportunity to create the record necessary to satisfy the 2013 Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holder, so that the protections of the Voting Rights Act will be reinstated and improved. She has also assured me that the most loyal voting bloc in the Democratic party, Black women, will have a seat at the decision-making table. I am now confident that we will move forward together and that the 116th Congress will be a Congress of which we can all be proud. I now join my colleagues in support of the leadership team of Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn."

bar none. Tis doesn't mean that she'll hold that office much past 2020. But right now we need to shut this President down. Pelosi has the fire and the experience. Hopefully she'll start mentoring a few good Reps to replace her after the current emergency is over.

If the VRA as currently comprised is to be used effectively, then lawyers challenging voter suppression or extreme partisan gerry-mandering have to have data and facts from which to craft their arguments.

Congresswoman Fudge's request for the House to create the record needed to reinstate voter protections under the Voting Rights in the particularly racist southern states is so very important. I am so glad this is going to happen. It's long overdue to create this record.

Not terribly familiar with him, but just doing a quick look up on the issues, his record looks pretty solidly in line with the Democratic Party platform?

Appears very pro choice, good on the economy, high ratings across the board on civil rights, strong on pro labor rights, pro marijuana legalization stance, pro public education, pro environment, Gets an “F” from the NRA, pro-public health care. About the only area that I didn’t think much of him on was his “tough on crime” stance.

Appears to be making his constituents very happy going by both his primary and GE results this last cycle.

You hound them to do what's right. You research the issues & decide what you think is right & then you call & write to your congressional reps & tell them what you want them to do & how you want them to vote. That's what representative government is all about. It's a shame, with all the free long distance that everyone gets, that Congress' phone lines aren't ringing off the hook. The last time anything like that was reported was the financial crisis of 2008.

I love watching Democracy, the good, the bad and the ugly. Fascist republicans hate it, call it a republic. The inner workings of the house now is setting up to be one of the best Democratically controlled houses in our lifetimes with superb leadership and a monster of a job taking down the tRump crime family.
